Lavatera cretica L
Family: Malvaceae

The Cretan mallow or small tree mallow is an annual or biennial plant, to a maximum to 1.5m. The leaves are rounded-heart-shaped in outline, with toothed lobes, with ciliate hairs, up to 10cm long. The plant bears small pink or light purple flowers, in clusters of 2-8 on unequal stalks, with petals just over a cm long. The fruit is disc-shaped with 7 to 10 segments.
It grows on waste and fallow land, roadsides, from February to June.
It is often confused with Malva sylvestris, but with broader epicalyx lobes and an absence of simple hairs on the flowers-stalks.
It is native to western Europe, North Africa, and the Mediterranean Basin, and naturalized in areas with a Mediterranean climate, such as parts of Australia and California.

Bojour Catherine,
I presume that this picture was taken under a hard and difficult light, but the result is very good quality. Congratulations, it's always difficult to photograph flowers under excess light conditions. Good work, good details and textures, endowed with a beautiful composition.

Bonjour Catherine,
Anne

Hy Catherine
I see that after you bought this macro lens, you never used another one. Is like a second eye for you. And you are continuously prezent exceptional works with it. This one is very clear, with very good details, very natural in colors.
All the best,
Oana

Hi Catherine. A picture from the summer of last year. Nice to see on a dark winters eve. You used the light so well to give bright colours to the well detailed flowers. The plant stands out from the BG. well taken TFS.
