This aromatic plant with exceptional medicinal properties host here a fierce insect predator, the assassin bug. Photo taken on Ikaria island.

Helichrysum italicum (Roth) G.Don, 1830
Famille : Asteraceae

Common names: Curry plant (EN), Ölmez çiçek (TU), Siempreviva del monte (SP), Immortelle d'Italie (FR).

It is sometimes called the curry plant because of the strong smell of its leaves. It grows on dry, rocky or sandy ground around the Mediterranean. The stems are woody at the base and can reach 60 cm or more in height. The clusters of yellow flowers are produced in Summer, they retain their colour after picking and are used in dried flower arrangements.
The essential oil of H. italicum is an excellent anti-inflammatory and anti-haematoma. With its mucolytic and antoxidant properties, it helps to regenerate skin and tissue. The anti-inflammatory activity of Helichrysum italicum can be explained by multiple effects, including inflammatory enzyme inhibition, free-radical scavenging activity and corticoid-like effects.
The leaves can be used as a flavouring in salads and cooked food. The essential oil, with its intense fragrance, can be used as a flavouring to enhance fruit flavours in sweets, ice cream, baked goods, soft drinks and chewing gum.

Rhinocoris iracundus
Family: Reduviidae

This large assassin bug has captured a bee. Its bite may be painful due to toxic saliva.

Hello Catherine.
Flower and insect looks very nice and you have done it very well. I know that you like to learn different names in different languages. In Turkish your plant is: Ölmez Çiçek (undying flower). I don't know insects name. It is just a Böcek (= Bug).

Thanks for sharing. I have taken the same insect too and your identification helps me a lot :)

Greetings
Fevzi

Hola Catherine,
una interesante toma en su conjunto por la escena de los insectos y por la presentación de la planta. Los colores, a mi gusto, excesivamente saturados.
Un abrazo: Josep Ignasi.
