Ophrys with impressively big flowers (up to 2cm long) with eastern Mediterranean distribution, from Crete, where it occurs frequently, to Israel. In Crete, it coexists and flowers almost the same time with Ophrys helios, which nevertheless has smaller flowers and in Rhodes with Ophrys calypsus, which has longer petals, contiguous at their base. Flowering time end of March - April.

what a beauty, I was not aware of this one in Rhodes, unless it is the same flower they now name colossaea, which i have a few in my gallery from last trip
