Synema globosum (Fabricius, 1775)
Araneae: Thomisidae
Common name: spider Napoleon,Thomise globose, globular Thomise, spider-crab

Synema globosum is a species of 'crab spiders' very common in Crete belonging to the family Thomisidae.
Its size is small 7-8 mm for females; 2-4 mm for males. She had the body smooth and shiny.Cephalothorax and legs Brown dark to black.

These spiders have four colors to their abdomen: white, yellow, black and red.Flower insects are captured by its long forelimbs. The party colored of her abdomen may have variations in shades pulling on the orange, yellow, white. The distinctive black pattern on the abdomen reminds the silhouette of a bust of Napoleon 1st and explains its vernacular name of «Spider» Napoleon.

Found on flowers, watching his prey.(often on flowers of Cistus, fennel, umbelliferae, Marigold, chrysanthemum, Daisy, rose depending on the season)
Flower-filled meadows, roadsides, forest edges.
This is one of the rare predatory ants spiders.
The two pairs of front legs, used to kill insects that come to forage the flowers are much more developed than the two pairs of hind legs which have rather a function of locomotion.
The legs are all ringed, the legs I and II are darker than the III and IV

Hello Nikos,
Interesting crabspider species, not very present in our araes. In my eyes there is quite much noise in the background. Why don't you use neat-image(free download).
Thanks for the note too.
Anne

Hello Nikos - Attractive Spider...Quite well captured. Nice colour and I like its natural habitat. With due respect I have done a WS for you. WS doesn't mean what you have captured it's wrong. Actually I wanted to see it in different way. In this way I can learn and improve myself. So have a look. Ignore it, if you don't agree with me. Regards and have a nice day - Srikumar
