[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hi Trekkers,

I just came back (to Ireland) from my 2-week holiday spent in my home country, Hungary - with a few new fave photos. This is one of them.

This species was previously named Pholiota aurivella (Batsch) P. Kumm. (common English name: Golden Scalycap, hence the title), however, recent mycological studies based on DNA analysis proved the species in its wide sense is polyphyletic, and must be divided to the following 3 independent species:
- Pholiota adiposa (Batsch) P. Kumm.;
- Pholiota cerifera (P. Karst.) P. Karst.;
- Pholiota limonella (Peck) Sacc.

To confuse the situation more, both MycoBank and Index Fungorum mention all the above 4 taxons, including P. aurivella, as currently legitimate. Not being aware of which of the above I found, and also because the 3 (4?) species are macroscopically indistinguishable from each other, I'd identify the "model" as Pholiota aurivella sensu lato. Although the species (complex) is common, it's emerging the first time in my gallery.

Photo: taken in manual exposure mode, with manual ISO and white balance. Flash fired, camera positioned upside down. PP: slight level and color adjustment, moderate cropping, after re-sizing selective re-sharpening and noise reduction.

Thanks for looking.
