Mating Robber Flies

Thanks Catherine and Thor for the ID.. I wasn't sure enough ;) I had a post of a robber fly but it was kinda different..

But one thing looks sure, that they are mating..

Took this shot today, with several others I'll share later on.. Used my 35-135 Nikkor in macro mode and an external flash to get the chance to stop down a bit. Still it wasn't enough, you can see the eyes are not sharp enough.
Anyway I'm kinda satisfied as I see it as an improvement from my previous macros. I only don't like the wings being flashed so ugly..

Please tell me what you think! TFV :)

Best regards,

Hello Andor,
For sure they are mating! Excellent shot, sharp, with beautiful light. It's a couple of Robber flies (Asilidae family). It is a big family: about 7,100 described species worldwide ! Could not help you more. Best regards,

interesting capture with amazing details on these mating robberflies! :-) no idea about the real ID though.
well done & best wishes, thor.

great capture, TFS Ori

You certainly have your timing right, bro!

Pl stop thinkin twice about your shots, you just click them and post them, 'coz we love them!
Sorry, just noticed I've run out of smilies!
BUT YOU'RE DA BESTEST (if I may use such a word)!!!!
A big hug from India!

Hello Andor,
congratulations on your splendid gallery pictures; a very beautiful macro shot of this mating Robber Flies, very good sharpness and brigth colours, a very nice composition with a marvellous environment.
Best regards

Szia Andor!
:-) Grat a látványos fotóhoz. Én másfél éve Írországba költöztem, úgyhogy mivel Te meg nem jársz a TN-en, nincs, aki hazánkat rendszeresen képviselje... :-( Remélem, visszatérsz egyszer a TN-re. Nagyon várom.
Minden jót, baráti üdv Corkból, Laci
