Anemone nemorosa is an early-spring flowering plant in the Genus Anemone. Common names include wood anemone, windflower, European thimbleweed and smell fox. It is a perennial herbaceous plant, growing in early spring to 5-15 cm tall, and dying back down to the root-like rhizomes by mid summer. The rhizomes, that spread just below the earth surface, grow quickly, contributing to its rapid spread in woodland conditions, where it can carpet large areas.

The flower is 2 cm diameter, with six or seven petal-like segments (actually tepals). In the wild the flowers are usually white, but may be pinkish, lilac or blue, and often have a darker tint to the back of the 'petals'. It does not have a scent, and little nectar, since it does not rely very much on pollination by insects for reproduction.

The plant is poisonous to humans, but has been used as a medicine. Anemone nemorosa and allied species have similar and active properties, and from time to time these plants have been brought before the medical profession. They have not reached a prominent position however, not in consequence of their worthlessness, but because they have not been investigated by the proper authorities. Their active natures indicate that they possess properties which may render them valuable in some skin diseases. It is used mainly in Homeopatic treatment.

I chose this pic over a bunch of them because I find this to be the most interesting one. The flower that faces away seems to be a young boy declaring his love to the chosen one (this is in my sick-twisted mind ;)).

Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Catalin.
I like your poetic well done picture with so exact title. Excellent composition, wonderful delicate lighting and colours, perfect darkened BG which highlights the min subject very well. My compliments and TFS.

Da, superbe! Am fost ieri la padure si era plin de florile astea si nu numai, a fost o zi splendida, am reusit sa gasim o zona unde nu mai erau si altii si ne-am bucurat din plin de lipsa "civilizatiei".
