|Well, not of this season, the photo was shot in 2016, but this was really my 1st butterfly image in that year, so it's time to post it now. :-) |
The species on the pic is the well-known, rather common small tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae).
Photo was done in manual exposure mode.
Location was the famous, mild-climate Garnish Island (AKA Garinish), which is accessible by ferry from the Irish inland (from the Glengarriff Pier). This area is the mildest in IRL (climate-wise), as the Glengarriff Harbour is one of the points where a branch of the Gulf Stream (being exact its extension, the North Atlantic Current) breaks the coast. There's an arboretum-alike garden on the island with full of exotic plant species, meanwhile, during your maritime journey to Garnish you have serious chance to watch the most famous harbour seal (Phoca vitulina) colony of Ireland.
Thanks for looking, reading and commenting.

Hi Laszlo,i was ready to write "i can't believe" reading your title...ehehe..but isn't the first of this year, just a memory of 2016 springtime. The composition and the species are typical of Avril,a beautiful Aglais urticae coming from the winter sleep, on the very attractive purple flowers of Lunaria, perfect quality as usual.Have a nice evening and thanks, luciano
🎊 Congratulation for your first 🦋 in this year 😊
Well exposure and like the way you framed it vertically.
Details look good too,
Once I capture this Tortoiseshell species in Himalayan Mountain area,
Thanks for sharing your work 😊
Ciao Laszlo, congratulations for first butterfly,, great macro of fantastic butterfly on beautiful flower, fantastic colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio
We have this butterfly in the Himalayan region, Laszlo. I have seen it at altitude 14000 ft plus.
A lovely composition with plenty other colours surrounding the subject.
