[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are many aspects of the Irish countryside that are both stunning in appearance and moving in effect. Where mountain and sea collide in steep cliffs, their combined splendor can be stupefying in its appeal.

This post is really about "Coastal geomorphology" a theme that includes all the landforms around the coast which have been created by the power of the sea. Such is the case at the Cliffs of Moher, Ireland.

The cliffs are up to 700ft high in places and extends 5 miles along the coast. It is made up of dark yellow sandstone and millstone grit, the layers of which can be seen near the top of the cliffs. Being almost vertical, their sheer drop into the heaving Atlantic ocean is a haven for sea birds and the view from the top is never tiresome.

Before I started participating in TN late in 2004 I was there in June and missed a golden opportunity to capture some of the great wildlife around that area.

It is home to loads of different types of birds; guillemots, puffins, choughs and kittiwakes, to name a few. Hopefully later this year I shall return to Moher and indeed the Burren area.

My post shows on the left the full stretch of the cliffs and believe it not there is actually people standing on the top but the scale is to small to reveal this. The right picture shows about a fifth of the cliffs and gives a better example of the scale.

Nice rugged coastline shot, good note to go with it.

Before reading your note, I noticed the people standing on the cliff. And I asked myself: how did they get there? Anyway that's another example of your talent Stephen. Super landscape and great collage and frame. That is "grandiose". Another good reason to visit Ireland.

This combination is very interesting, Stephen. Interaction between the two views is very well expressed. I like these kind of shots showing rough nature. Wish there would be more sea bird paradises like this on TN. People installed on the right picture...nice place to breathe good healthy air!
