Etymology: Sipontensis,from Siponto a village at the foothills of Mount Gargano
Endemic to Mount Gargano principally thr southern foothills and Siponto plain.Very local and rare
Description: Often robust 20-50cm tall.3-8 flowers;sepals whitish to purplish pink.Speculum central,formed by 2 thick parallel,vertical lines often linked at level of basal field,thus forming an H,bright gloosy blue.
Floweing season March-April (May)
Habitat: Full sun to mid-shade on dry to moist calcareous subtrates.Short poor grassland,meadowes,abandoned cultivation and garrigue upto 700m |
