Many many thanks to Art,Amarok(Emma) and Joey for all the suggestions and help in resolving my upload problems,am now able to post from home.


O. archipelagi (archipelago ophrys) previously recognised under the all-embracing species Ophrys arachnitiformis, which research has shown now consists of several taxa. Ophrys archipelagi is one of these and also occurs on islands off the Dalmatian coast. The lip pattern is highly variable and often fragmented - something that often happens with those orchids in a state of evolutionary flux.

Description: Robust and slender,(20) 24-40 (55)cm tall.
4-8 flowers

Flowering season: March - April

Habitat: Full sun to mid-shade on dry to moist calcareous subtrates.Short,poor grassland,garrigue,banks,scrub and open woodland upto 680m

Congratulations on your 100th post! Many thanks for the impressive collection of orchids you've shown us so far. This is another one new to me. I like the beautiful lip pattern and the lovely colours that stand out against the fine soft background. I wonder how many more you've left to show us?
