Polyommatus icarus (Rottemburg, 1775) / Common Blue

Another POV in WORKSHOP.

This very common butterfly, varies from place to place or from year to year on the same habitat.
There is a great difference between P. icarus females from dry, sandy terrain and those from fertile valleys.
Females vary from uniform, dark brown, with or totally lacking blue suffusion and with or totally lacking orange marginal spots and the black spots at outer margin. Orange lunules can be surrounded by blue, the blue possibly extending from the spot to the outer margin.
The fore wing, can have a pale blue costa and outer margin or it can be totally blue with a discoidal spot and orange and black marginal spots along a black outer margin of hind wing.

****
