[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The picture shows an aged specimen of
- Parnassius apollo
- family: Papilionidae

English: Apollo
German: Apollo, Apollofalter
French: L'Apollon

The specimen shows some lesions, the colours are no more brilliant and it has lost a number of scales - just the signs a aging.

Species information
The species is easily recognized by its wing pattern. However, there occurs a similar species in the European Alps, Parnassius phoebus, of which I have shown a picture earlier.

A huge number of subspecies have been described of Parnassius apollo, most of them probably without any biological sense.

Location
Upper Peder-Valley, North-Italian Alps, about 2400 m.

Conditions
- bright natural light
- ISO 400
- handheld

Wow Peter,
Those yellow tones in it`s wings are their own colours or translucency by the flower?
Very nice crispy details and perfect composition dear friend.
TFS and see you on TN, actualy it`s always a pleasure to see your fine pics here.
Best wishes,
Francisco

Hi Peter
Apollo is always fantastic ;-) Another great contribution to TN gallery. Nice POV, good exposure. Background is blured but a little bit disturbing and with some noise

Lieber Peter,

Vielen Dank, ganz super

Hi Peter

Gee, that is an old one, the wings are also translucent. Good diagonal composition, great sharpness and details.

Chris

Hallo Peter
Although this butterfly has seen better days, one can still see traces that at some stage it was a beauty. Even though the wings are withered and fragile, you captured it with great clarity. The furry body, stripes on the antennas and the big eyes are well seen. I like the colourful background, which makes one forget about the wear and tear just seen on the butterfly. The colours of both the butterfly and the cheerful background are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna

Ciao Peter. Good light's management here in an intrigant diagonal pose. Great contrast.

Roberto
