La Calomera lugens lugens (Coleoptera, Carabidae) è una cicindela endemica di Sicilia.
Questa specie vive nell'ambiente della scogliera e della costa rocciosa nelle immediate vicinanze del mare.
La popolazione siciliana è completamente isolata dal resto dell'areale.
Nel Mediterraneo orientale (Cipro, costa siriana e turca, Rodi, Israele) vive la sottospecie Calomera lugens cypricola.
La distribuzione che osserviamo oggi è però probabilmente ciò che resta di una diffusione assai più ampia e uniforme.
Si pensa che questa specie sia giunta fino in Sicilia nel Terziario, durante il disseccamento del Mediterraneo, trasformatosi in una serie di laghi soprasalati, il che rese possibili ampi collegamenti territoriali. |

What a great and unique picture! Not only very nice image but anso with very interestg object! For me it is a great pleasure to watch this photo not only because of my profession but also because I have naver seen this species before on the picture.

I also hope that you agree that your fantastic picture can be added to two TN themes: tiger beetles of Europe and tiger beetles of the world :)

congratulazioni per questo bellissimo scatto.
Se vai a vedere su questo link www.treknature.com/gallery/Europe/Italy/photo129591.htm potrai vedere che anche io questa estate ho fotografato un insetto simile ma che lo avevo identificato come Lophyridia littoralis nemoralis - OLIVIER 1790.
Non essendo un entomologo non capisco la differenza con la Calomera lugens lugens, mi puoi dare qualche ragguarglio?.
