This picture of the beetle was taken after a short rain. The species is well known at TN. It is:
- Cetonia aurata
- family: Scarabaeidae

German: Rosenkäfer

It is often found in southern Europe, mainly on thistles are other Compositae. In spite of its German name, I never observed it on roses.

Martell-Valley in the north Italian Alps, vicinity of Burgaun, about 1100 m.

Hallo Peter,
wieder ein Vor-Bild! Der Käfer so frisch und auf einer Skabiose sitzend, alles perfekt im Fokus. Sehr gut gelungen ist die Beleuchtung, diffus und doch die Farben betonend. Die Tropfen sind herrlich anzusehen.

Ist es C. auratus? Der Punktierung des Pronotums nach und wegen der Olivfarbe und dem Fundort) könnte es sich um C. carthami Gory& Percheron 1832 (=C. italicus Reitter) handeln. Etwas Info fand ich auf http://www.insecte.org/.
