Family: Tachinidae
Genus: Ectophasia
Species:E. crassipennis

Ectophasia crassipennis is a species of 'parasitic flies' belonging to the family Tachinidae subfamily Phasiinae.
Adults of Ectophasia crassipennis can reach a length of about 5–9 millimetres (0.20–0.35 in). Their large compound eyes are reddish. In this quite variable species the body may be blackish or orange-brownish. The broad abdomen is flattened and sternite 7 is ventrally folded. The large wings have wide brownish or greysh dots and the cell R5 is opened at the edge.It is quite difficult to distinguish this species from the similar Ectophasia oblonga.
This fly is present in Southern Europe and warmer parts of Central Europe.
These flies can mostly be encountered from early August through late September feeding on nectar of flowers (especially of Apiaceae and Asteraceae species).
The larvae are parasitic of Hemiptera (Pentatomidae, Acanthosomatidae,Coreidae and Lygaeidae).

Hello Luciano - What I like most here? Absolutely Wings of the Flies. Nice colour and detailed. But to me, POV isn't attractive enough, although it's a natural habitat picture. Thanks for sharing. Regards - Srikumar

Hello Luciano,
I don't believe I have ever seen a fly so colorful before. The wings alone are stunning to view while the head and abdomen are equally as attractive. Super sharp image with wonderful DOF. Great shot!!

Good sharpness

Great notes too.

You have really turned your images of insects into an art form - I hate flies, but this is a marvelous picture! Excellent colors and sharpness. I often wonder what these macros of your would lool kile blown up to, say, 1 metre across!!

Bonjour Luciano,
Anne
