Courting scenes for this pair of Melitaea phoebe, but the female does not want to know, raising her body to signal that she has already been fertilized.

Family: Nymphalidae
Genus: Melitaea
Species: M. phoebe
The Knapweed Fritillary (Melitaea phoebe) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family. It is found in the Palearctic ecozone, except the Northernmost locations. It used to include Melitaea telona, recently revalidated as a distinct cryptic species.

The larvae feed on Plantago and Centaurea species (including Centaurea jacea).

Hi Luciano,
Excellent shot and useful note. The male's wings are a little worn, not surprisingly the female didn't want anything from him... The lady and the redkneck. ☻ Great capture, made me smiling. Thanks for sharing.
Kind regards from Ireland, László
