The bear has a rest. The Riga ZOO.The first menageries of the Europe have appeared in XVIII century. First it were the closed scientific institutes but when it has appeared, that animals interest also simple public their gate have opened and for people. To beginning XX of a century and in promptly developing Riga there were the enthusiasts, ready to open a zoo in native city as performances of visiting menageries always collected full halls.
On coast Kishezersa the Riga thought has received the request for reception of the ground in 1907, has found its not unreasonable and later has satisfied. Thus, since April, 11th, 1911 the ground the society rented « The Riga Zoo », based in 1908. Official opening took place on October, 14th, 1912, when before visitors of presteel of 267 animal 88 kinds, basically, lived on territory of Empire.
The garden quickly grew owing to generous financing from the Riga thought, various firms and general-governor Lifljandii.
The zoo continued development, there came new animals, however administration has been compelled to restrict old inhabitants and to divide open-air cages. Eventually, to 80-th situation became intolerable, that has pushed to significant reconstruction of an institution with 1980 for 1985. New dwellings for bears, a kangaroo, yaks, fur зверьков have been constructed. Construction and after restoration of independence of Latvia has proceeded, for example, in 2001 the new dwelling for tropical inhabitants of a zoo has opened. Nowadays the zoo participates also in various programs on preservation rare animal and is one of the most beautiful in the Europe |
