[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It has a rusty orange colour to the wings, upper body and the tips of the antennae. The body is silvery white below and it has a wingspan of 25 -30 mm. This butterfly is very similar in appearance to the Essex Skipper Thymelicus lineola. In the Small Skipper, the undersides of the tips of the antennae are yellow orange, whereas they are black in the Essex Skipper. The black area on the lower edge of the upper wings also differs. Like the other orange 'grass skippers' the male has a distinctive black stripe made up of scent scales. This butterfly's range includes southern Britain, much of Europe, north Africa and the Middle East, typically occurring where grass has grown tall.

Hi Arunas!

You present us a very impressive macro picture. The butterfly appears with great sharpness, and the droplets add to the value of the picture. It's amazing and surprising, the butterfly seems to come from another planet... I'm also impressed by your exposure data: 1/2 sec for an butterfly, I have never seen that before!

Kind regards

Hi Arunas,

Hi Arunas,
very creative close-up portrait of Thymelicus sylvestris. Excellently made with impressing technical skills, and aesthetically very pleasing and convincing. The lovely droplets of dew and a 1/2 seconds exposure are telling of the blessings of totally calm and cool weather. Getting up early always pays.
Thank you! With best regards,
