[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Sawfly larva (symphyta) curled up and hidden under a leaf of a rose bush ; some raindrop still clings in the curl of its tail.

I like the abstract green spiral that the larva is forming like some sprouting fruit. It was rainy this morning, and the larvae uses the leaf as a sort of umbrella in its own way. Background is clear but grey sky.

I could only get very sparse information on sawfly larva. I found one picture of Arge ochropus larva, which looked much alike. In my last post I noted that sawfly larvae resemble caterpillars but have large numbers of prolegs. This sawfly larva has also real composed eyes unlike caterpillars.

Photo taken with the Nikon D70 and Sigma 50mm macro lens. Plastic diffuser used for softening the flash, Manfrotto tripod.

Image taken in Raw (NEF)

Postprocessing done with free UFRaw program, which acts as a plug-in for "the Gimp" :

UFRaw for colour space, curves, contrast
The Gimp : Unsharp mask, selective Gaussian blur, stamp tool (dust removal), slight crop, resize for site, jpeg conversion

Thanks for looking and for your interest,

Patrick

nice macro but a little more contrast would be nice. also a tad more sharpening on the larva.
