Hello Achim,
An amazing composition!
I have no idea what happened to the pines, but they make a fine diagonal in the composition seen on the background of the shimmering sea...

I am almost sure that these 'pines' are parts of cactuses that are there.
They are flowers of agave.

What a wonderful photo. The tumbnail doesn't do justice to the larger version. The depth in this photo and the creative thought behind it are amazing. Funny that the perspective to this photo makes the small plants look huge.
