[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This shot of a Southern green shieldbug [also called stinkbug]was taken with the Raynox DCR150 converter attached to my camera. I followed some useful advice given by RAP and used manual focus when using this lens. Results improved immediately. I used my tripod for support, with only one leg extended. I found that by putting my left hand on the tripod instead of the normal position under the lens, I attain better stability when taking such shots.I also found that the best manner is to creep forward little by little until the subject comes into focus.
Stinkbug, common name applied to a number of species of bugs that secrete a persistent disagreeable odour that protects it from enemies and remains on plants over which the bug walks. The odour comes from two glands on the thorax. One family alone contains more than 5,000 species. A major group of stinkbugs, which are known as shield bugs, are broad, flat insects with five-jointed antennae. Their colour is usually green, grey, and brown; some are coloured bright red and black or bright yellow and black. Shield bugs vary in their food habits, some being exclusively carnivorous and others being exclusively plant feeders.

Scientific classification: Stinkbugs make up the families Pentatomidae, Coreidae, and Anthocoridae of the order Hemiptera
Thanks for looking

Bella e ben fatta. Ciao gigicacco

Hello Mark,
Quite an achievement with this sharpness, pov, dof and exposure. The depth of the picture caused 3D effect, get the feeling that flower and shieldbug are floating from background and ready to jump out of my computer screen.
JC

Hi Mark!
You have used the converter and the flash light very effectively in this macro shot of a stink bug. The image has acquired a three-dimensional aspect with apt handling of your equipment.
POV, colours, details and sharpness are quite outstanding in this image.
TFS and take care.
Ram

Hello Mark,
nice presentation of this little 'stinky' in front view. Nice details and focus just in the right plane. Natural and contrasting colours of bug, plant and smooth background result in a balanced and attractive picture (although it's a stink bug).
Best wishes, Peter

Ricardo

Hi Mark!

I took a picture from almost the same bug with almost the same acquitment.. just a little bit different;
http://nl.treknature.com/gallery/Europe/Netherlands/photo70944.htm

In you're picture I like the DOV and POV a lot. And the colours of the flower are nice to!

TFS Greetz Kristy

I like very much frontal POV with insects, and this is not an exception. You really nailed the DOF, getting sharp from the mouth to the contour. Lovely perch, beautiful BG and great crop. TFS.

Hello Mark,
very attractive and eye catching picture, creatively approached, artistically composed, a feast of harmonious colours. With thanks, and best regards,
Peter
