Pelecanus occidentalis (Linnaeus, 1766)
Brown Pelican

Big bird that can measure 100-150 cm and a wingspan of 200-230 cm.
Very common along the coast of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands where it is estimated that more than a thousand pairs live.
Good swimmer, dives into the sea to catch fish they eat.
The main feature is to have a long beak (up to 40 cm) and a large expandable bag under the jaw. This bag has the function of a net for catching fish and not as a food reserve. It 'also useful for regulating body temperature.
The Pelicans have short legs webbed which contribute to give them a staggering gait, but they are good swimmers. Formations usually fly in groups with "V" or files.
They nest in colonies not far from the water and the nests are made of woven twigs on the branches of trees or on the ground. Male and female alternately brooding the eggs and provide food to the "small" for 3-4 months before they are able to fish for themselves.

Bonjour Sergio,
Posture pour le moins originale mais bonne valorisation du sujet par l'appréciation de la délicatesse des couleurs et de la finesse des détails.
A bientôt sur TN pour de nouvelles aventures.
Gérard
