She loves that, which we as unpleasant and very dirty appear - Excremental of each kind. Above all cowshit she makes love and put her eggs in it. And that is our luck, because the larvae nourish themselves of the vegetable and bacterial contents materials of the dung and contribute so to rapider composition and training into the soil also. There would not be such creatures like it, and then the earth would be already suffocated before very long time in the eliminations on their existing organism. With their very sensitive sense of smell, the muck fly seeks out very rapidly a juicy fresh cowshit. And strengthened and then the mating ritual can begin. The male begins with the honeymoon flight, into that the bent female immediately with enters. The actual mating takes place then in the grass. After the mating the male accompanies the female to the ovi position at the cowshit, where it watches out very careful for it, that no other male comes too close to it. At the put down the eggs are the wing-like projections; those from the dung stand out and most likely for it ensure, that the eggs do not continue to sink. The larvae develop very rapidly, and also emergency does, because the cowshit drains depending upon weather conditions fast and becomes then hard. The pupating and hibernation take place in the soil.

Yes this was unique. I never saw it before. And Yes I had my camera with me. So you can see the result of this shot. I hope you like it too.

Ha Jaap,

Ik vroeg me al af wat vissers 's winters doen als ze niet vissen. Heb je ze ook zien vliegen?

Thanks for this great macro shot and for the very interesting note, Jaap.

Impressive capture of this "lady of the muck heap" with her prey. Good focus and colours, but the photo looks a fraction over sharpened.

LOL at this ridiculous description! What a disgusting little insect, yet very industrious too.

Great capture, Jaap! Really amazing crispness and great color.

Dear Jaap,
