Flying away"

This is the same Heron as I posted HERE and HERE, shot at that snowy 2nd of March 2005. The photo was taken a while after the first two when my new friend decided to fly away.

Don't shoot me; this is my first flying bird photo on TN. Actually ... you can shoot me as I am here to learn!! :) Hit me!

See my earlier posts for information on the Grey heron (Ardea cinerea).

Check the original I had to work with HERE.

Nice shot Pieter,
Good sharp details, and good in flight capture.
Well exposed, and very well taken in cold snowy conditions.
Nice POV. For a first flying shot, you've done fantastic.
Thanks for posting

Very nice Pieter, there is a little noise in the image but the in-flight shot is very good with excellent detail in the wings. Very good work.

Hit us, hit you, hahaha
It is a good shot first of all and you did well, in post pro, maybe cloaning out a couple spots and riding of noise would help the overall composition. Anyway, it works for me. Plus this is well done for using a compact, you've got my vote. If it was a DSLR shot, I would really kick you in the... hahaha
Excelent work.

Mike

Hey Pieter, excellent shot. My flying birds are blurs! You've caught him very well - he's even got snow on his feet. And it is good how you've managed to shoot him between the 2 hulls. Well done.

Nice capture Pieter. Lovely POV and one which we don't often see. The details are pretty good and I love the composition. There seems to be some noise on the ice and that is a little grey - maybe the WB got it a little worng, it's very difficult with snow and ice. Well done.

Great lighting, very good details and sharpness.
I like the composition, nice colours.

Excellent action shot, Pieter.
Well done!

Great capture of this poor cold bird. Original composition. The posts in the foreground distract the eye but it's extremely difficult to control everything when a bird is in flight. Very well done.
Regards.
Toni

Pieter, A nice captue on this stork. A good job for your first action shot. There does seem to be some noise, but the low light probably helped on that. Nice Job!

Pieter, nice composition and pov. Great sharpness and composition too.

I added your photo to a theme I have created.

Wow, you did an excellent job with your camera, very good capture and very good picture, well done!

Excellent detail Pieter, your first in flight shot is a very fine one. Well done.
I like this chappie, he was the one with the great face on your first big snow fall for 20 years! Thanks for sharing him with us again.

Hi Pieter
Very good bird in flight, good details, same guy as the one who caught my fish, or was it his cousin?
Get rid of the red in the BG, right, and the steel pegs in the FG middle, Clone them out with snow ot water, and then there is nothing to distract from your heron.

Every time I see an in-flight shot I get a bit jealous. I have nothing like this and still wish I get this right. Very well done, Pieter. It much better than any I have.

Very interesting POV here. To my eye, this has a painting like quality to it. Great composition and detail in the bird. Well done and TFS.

Très belle photo de ce heron sous la neige, Bravo !
J'aime beaucoup.
Nico.

Hi Pieter
With your lack of new posts I have to come all the way back here to find an un-critiqued photo! :)
This is an excellent first-flying-post and if it were mine, I'd be very pleased with it. (well, back then, anyway.) Now, I can pick fault with it a lot more, for example it would be better without the boats and the post, just a plain background. There's a very small halo around the heron due to sharpening. But, considering this was with your old camera and it was your first, it deserves 2 points.
