This is the same duck as I posted HERE, only seconds later.

This beautiful drake was taking a nap in the grass on the waterbank, near "Het Streekbos". The sun was already setting and that's why there was a beautiful light; it showed the drake's true colors.
Hit me where it hurts! I am already wearing the helmet and the body protection. Seriously: write what you think. I can use the lesson. Thank you!

Very nice capture Pieter, excellent detail and I like the shallow DOF. You done right in showing a little sky but I may have placed the duck either to the top or bottom left of frame for better composition. BTW nice frame great note.

hey pieter, nice shot.i like the ducks pose :)
the blurred clump of grass in front is a little disturbing imo,the colours are good,i also think the frame is a bit to heavy, composition is good, the duck isn't to centered, well done!

Hi Pieter! Very interesting note ;-) Nice scene, I like blurred BG, and of course pose of duck. Focus is spot on, sharpness and colours very good.

Hi Pieter!
So nice pose :-) It would be a perfect shot... but IT IS a DUCK :-)!!!!!!

Hello Pieter!
Wonderful shot.POV and details are perfect.I liked composition very much. Thanks for sharing.

Really like this resting pose Pieter! Excellent colors, light, details and sharpness..The bold frame works well for this one IMO.

Hi Pieter
Great Sleepy duck, color and sharpness
In a friendly way Christophe

Hey Pieter

I think this is the same duck as in your 'true colours' post, am I right? In that post, I think I said that your DOF was too shallow. In this case, it fits the mood of the shot and also your title. Everything else about the shot is excellent, although it's a shame the shade is hiding the colours of the head in this one.
Well done.

This is an unusual composition but I like it Pieter. I have to agree with Andy on the light on the face of the duck though. Is this the blur effect the original DOF effects or did you use a blurroing tool on it?

Hello Pieter,
this is a wonderful picture of a male duck. I like it very much. Good job.

Pieter, this is, to me, a different shot.

Maybe because of the frame, because of the pov...

Anyway, I do enjoy pov and vivid colors.

A great shot.

Hi Pieter. I like unusual pictures and this is one, starting with the mallard duck position and the viewing angle. The lighting, the vanishing colors, the contrast and the shallow depth of field make that picture interesting. Well done.

Hi Pieter,
A very nice composition. I like the shallow DOF, and great pose you have captured. Looks like you woke him up and he is eyeing you. Beautiful color and sharp detail. Nice Work!

Nice shot Pieter,
Nicely exposed, good detail and colours, the BG blur is good, I think the duck is centred, and would look a bit better more to the top right of the image. I do like the low POV.
Thanks for posting.

Beautiful natural shot - very clear and colorful. Fantastic composition and great details. Superb colors. Well done & TFS!

Hello Pieter!
Very nice scane.I liked bright colors, lighting POV and composition. Thanks for posting.

Hello Pieter

I like the shot but I find the blurred parts distracting and there looks like a halo around the head. Excellent catchlight in the eye. The light has allowed for some good plumage detail and colour. Nice pose from Sleepy! Thanks

Sorry, but I can't hit you this time, must wait for other ocassion ;)
The photo is superb, has great quality, perfect light and composition.
I like it very much.

Hi Pieter,
Hitting is not a nice thing to do, especially if it hurts, but if it helps, good. LOL

Hey, great shot, POV.
The composition is a little too close for comfort, but, it is somewhat out of center and like I said, close, too close. Hehe
I don't know if you had a spasm with your hand in post pro, the blurring is abit too heavy.
On a high note, I do like your approach on this one. good effort. :) :)

Great capture, Pieter. The sharpness is absolutely spot on, and the skewed horizon adds interest. Beautiful colors and lighting. Another good one from you!

Pieter, ducks are not my favourite animals, but I must say that DOF in this shot took my interest. Maybe is not your best quality but the double OOF effect makes it this time.
Interesting photo.

Hi Pieter!
I wish to receive a critic/comment from you with your new way of doing them, so I will give you a long and personnal one for this photo.
First, I find the frame too large.
Second, I like very much the OOF for the front and the back.
Then, to put the eye in the center of the composition forces the glance of the observer to go to this place, what shows certain talent for the composition.
The little stick and the blue zone are disturbing.
The PoV is excellent. To be to the height of the subject is always rewarding.
The grass too is disturbing. I think a good photo must contain only the visual information needed. Not more, nor less. It is why a bird in flight is always well appreciated.
The note is great and more than complete.
It took me an half an hour to write this. It is why I use normally a speedy way to write feed-back: 20 X 1/2 = 10 hours. I cant do that.
I wish you will stay, Pieter, not for me or anyone else, but for you. Have Fun!

Hi Pieter. A perfect duck shot, excellent detail and pose. You have captured his colouring perfectly.
In my opinion the frame is too large. I also find the grass and water quite distracting, was it blurred?
Thanks for posting.

It's avery nice picture, Pieter.
AS other mention the frame is to big.
The head is little to dark but I know it's hard to get it right. I can see a small halo around the head it i'm nitpicking but thats just a minor nit.
Otherwise it's a very good picture with good POV, well composed and very nice colours.
Very well done.
I have been in the same situation as you. In the end of 2004 I left TN for the same reason as you. But I return after a couple of weeks. It's not good when 10% of the members stands for 50% of the comments.
Pls stay we need people like you, my friend.

Very nice capture Pieter. The mallard really looks very relaxed, almost sleeping. I like the low pov, together with the composition and the little sky in the left corner it works great here. Also you have both the foreground and the background blurred which drags the eyes towards the mallard. The colours are perfect.

All over a very pleasant picture to look at. Only tiny personally nit - I think I would crop jus 1/4 of the space in the left side to bring the mallard a little more out of centre vertically too but it sure is a minor thing.

Stunning work Pieter. I like how visible the DOF is in this shot. The DOF just envelopes the duck and adds a lot of impact to the image. Excellent sharpness as well.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Hi Pieter,
Nice duck, great photo.
I like your POV.
Nice focus on the eye.

Hi Pieter, nice captured of this duck! I like the centered duck is this compositon. I agree the blurred grass in the foreground is distracting to my eye. It is great how you have kept such a clear detail of his eye since it seems that is a key element to the photo since it shows his expression. He seems as if he is "keeping his eye" on you! Very nicely done. BTW, I appreciate your the camera setting info. :-)

Una perfecta imagen para convertirla en carátula de un libro de poesía.
Suaves detalles, con un efecto alrededor del ave que brinda a la foto un aire de melancolía.
Gracias por compartirla Pieter.

A perfect image to convert it in cover page of a poetry book. Smooth details, with an effect around the bird that offers to the photo a melancholy air.
Thanks for sharing Pieter.
