Hi all,
This is the second picture from my trip to Biljdrop zoo in Rotterdam. There is a very good bird show at this zoo and i shot this fellow while he was flying towards one of the instructors. This is "Barn Owl". The Barn Owl (Tyto alba) is an owl in the family Tytonidae. This is one of the two groups of owls, the other being the typical owls Strigidae. The Barn Owl is the most widely distributed species of Tytonidae, and one of the most widespread species of any bird. Barn Owls occur worldwide, on every continent except Antarctica. They are absent from large areas of Asia, the Sahara Desert and New Zealand. These are birds of open country such as farmland, preferring to hunt along the edges of woods.

Thanks for dropping by

Hello Goutham,
A special pose of the Owl in-flight. Great sharpness and light. Fantastic timing. I would have cropped a piece of the right; the Owl is very central now. One of these days I go to Blijdorp.

Hi Goutham

I just love the action you've captured here and I know from past experience and many failed attempts that it is not as easy as it look or sound. Normally with these open air bird shows the flight path is not fixed and the instructors move about so you never really know when or where the bird will fly too.

You've done well to catch this guy in mid air and the details and colour seems quite well defined. The only slight pity is that the body and the face of the owl came out a bit on the darkish side. I've done a very quick workshop to try and bring out a wee bit of brightness in those areas. Hope you like it.

Well done and TFS.

Great action shot. I like the pose you have managed to capture here. Great sharpness and very good light on the wings. My photo's from that show are not so good but you managed very well.

Splendid shot - and I arrived at almost identical results as loot when playing with the image - so I didn't post it. But aside from the somewhat dark body - the image is fascinatingly beautiful with sharp, crisp detail. A shot you sure can be proud of.
Bravo! Cheers, Klaus

Goutham What a pose you have captured. Excellent and wonderful. The sharpness is fanstastic. Ganesh

Goutham, Good picture. I never knew that Owls will take up serious flights during the day. The details are excellent. The leaves in the background are a bit distracting. Otherwise the picture overall is very good. Metering had been accurate considering the back light against the sky in the background.

Hi Goutham,
I have to to tell you how much I am impressed by this picture. It is extremely rare to see a Barn owl in flight during the day but here you not only show this but the last speed-reducing wing flap before landing. All is razorharp and with good lighting. A rare and precious picture. Tanks for presenting it!
My best regards

Hello Goutham,
A very good moment...
I like the light in its wings.
