Finally a sign of life from me. Finally a new photo from me. Finally a break in my busy schedule. Finally a break in the weather. Finally a good spot for a sunset photo.

I think its obvious why I called this photo Finally.

I had it all planned for today. First I would do some light household chores and then leave for an hour drive to the highest waterfall in our country and later continue to a great National Park. But the weather didn't turned out as was forecasted. Which made me decide not to go to this new location, as I wasn't sure what to expect. So I stayed home, watched some TV and visited my parents. When I was about ready to selected a photo for TN, the sky cleared and a wonderful orange glow started to appear along the horizon. I immediately grabed my gear and head for the Sallandseheuvelrug, an area close by and well known.

The advantage of knowing an area is that you do not have to search as extensively for a good spot as you would need at a new location. It also helps to have the knowledge where the sun will set throughout the year. Studying a map and using a sun positioning compas do help to determine a good location, but maps do not show each small incline or tree and will surely not give you a 3-D recollection.

For me, this photo made my day and maybe even made my week perfect again.

Hello Niek,
This is an absolutely exquisite image, amazingly sharp in detail, colors are beautiful, lines are very interesting. This is just WOW, thanks for sharing.
Rick

This is lovely Niek. It reminds me of Emma's recent post. It is interesting that her sunsets often lean towards the oranges and yours is pink. I wonder what causes the colors... Oh, I am only wondering... not expecting a lesson on the science of light : )
It is a nicely exposed, composed and presented image. I like the way the silhouetted tree ties the foreground and the colorful sky together. I'm glad you are back and glad that you had a perfect day/week!! aaaaaah... life is good!

Evelynn : )

Hello Niek,
This is an award winning tree photograph!
Every single element is beautiful but even more important they merge well into this great unity!
Excellent...
Greetings,

Hi Niek!

I can see why this photo makes the week all right! Great shot it is! The exposure is very good, and so is the sharpness. i see you used a small aperture, which works great here. It is very good to have you back as well! Sooner or later the itching in the shutter finger gets to us..hehe.
Nice note to tell the story behind the picture!

Hi Niek

This is indeed something inspiring :)
You did great to grab your gear and go to this splendid spot and capture this lovely setting sun atmosphere.
The silhouette of this lonely tree looks amazing against that magnificent sky! I LOVE the composition and the positioning of the tree in the frame as well as the among the ground takes from the scene, in comparison to the sky.
The exposure and DOF are great here, too, but the colors are the ones that just take the eyes away! The way they transcend from one tone to another here - slowly and faded - is just awesome!
I'm glad to hear that you finally had a break from work. I really hope that you will go out more from now on so that we can enjoy such beautiful photos...inspiring photos :) I should search for such a place around here, too ;)

Cheers, TFS and have a great weekend!

Hi Niek

What a wonderful capture you have here and not knowing the area either. The colours, composition and light in the photo are really great. The folds in the land really help with the composition as well.

Hallo Niek,

Chapeau. Prettige avond en tot TFS BOB

the delicate colours of this make it really fabulous, especially set against that superb tracery of a tree.

Hi Niek,
i known the feeling...the weather here this weekend has been awful, i haven't been able to get out with the camera at all.
Still, it's great to see somebody's been out there getting something beautiful. The expsoure is the ket to this kind of shot, and you've really nailed it here. So well done. Your composition is clearly excellent too...although i'm wondering what a lower POV might have looked like, with the whole of the tree sitting on the horizon...but thats just out of curiosity really! This is a fine image that you should be very proud of my friend.
Paul

Wow Niek, this is grand!
The sky glow is wonderful, lit from underneath by the setting sun..I think I can see jet contrails on the right side. The tree in silhouette, and low lying rolling hills, make this multi-layered composition a sure winner :)
Very well done,
Howard

Hello Niek.
I noticed a coincidence. You and Emma have both been tied up lately, for diffrent reasons, and take a look at your first posts back. Almost identical. There must be something theraputic about silhouetted trees. You both must have been thinking the same. Very beautiful. Wonderful colour and composition. Glad to see you back into it. Take care. Have a good week.
Best regards, Steve.

Hi Niek, a truly superb capture with excellent composition, tone and loads of mood. Definitely one of your best..Love it

A beauty! TFS and Cheers, Klaus

Hi Nieck, fascinating composition with splendid colors, wonderful silhouette of great tree, superb sky, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Niek!

It also makes my day...

I just love it! It's very well composed and the different lines of the foreground in the graduated tones lead us to a wonderful sky. It's a very good idea to cut the colored clouds by the fingers of the tree that try to catch them.

It's one of those rare sunset pictures that break the banality of so many others.

Kind regards

Markus

Hoi Niek,

Bedankt!

Groetjes, Nel

Hi Niek

"Finally" I managed to get to this photo as well even though it's way down the queue, but who cares who's lying where on the list anyway, as long as I managed to make it too.

A lovely capture of the late afternoon fading light playing with its paint brush to fill in all those lovely colours in the clouds and the sky. Good compositional proportions to the shot with the tree on the 1/3 vertical plane (while it also provides excellent scale and perspective) and the ±1/3 division of the earth, sky, and clouds on the horizontal plane. A perfect way to end the day – with beauty in the eye and tranquillity in the sky.

Great work and TFS.
Regards
Loot
