Sometimes Nature can create a surprising beauty that will only last for a very short period. The locked air pockets in the ice have created these wonderful organic shapes. The air pockets are most likely created by escaping air from the submerged vegetation on the bottom of this little pool.

Sorry for my lack of activity. Work and a nasty cold have kept me away from posting new photos or giving critique

Hi Niek,
great to see another post from you. I love the abstract feel to this shot, the shapes created by the ice are beautiful. You've got excellent sharp detail too, which is essential to make this shot work, which is does so well. Did you consider taking one from less close in at all?

I hope you and your family have a very merry christmas and an even better new year, enjoy yourself my friend and i hope you're feeling back to full health now.

Hoi Niek,

Wat een aparte foto is dit, inderdaad suprising beauty :-)
Je hebt dat ijs heel mooi vastgelegd, en door de verschillende vormen krijgt het iets abstracts, mooi gedaan.

Hi Niek

This definitely breacks the traditionalism...in a good way :)
I'm staying home arranging the ornaments on the tree, listening to traditional old carols and looking at all sort of very nice and rather similar Christmas card shots on TN. It sounds ok, i know, but i like braking the rule and i'm also a fan of abstracts...you know that ;)

This is a great close-up on these amazing shapes that water crystals tend to take.
Most people would have just passed by and never look back, but you not...you stopped and took this lovely shot. Now this may be because of the reason you told Paul, but i like to think the real reason is because you simply saw it...in a more profound way. You are a photographers that looks at everything from much more than a point of view and you discover different angles and faces of nature (and not only) that few people actually see :)

Anyway, it's a great shot with a good tight composition that enhances the drama of the shot and contains that interesting "contrast of geometry" between the curve lines and the straight one of the ice.
Wonderful work.

I would also like to take this chance to wish you and your family a peaceful, warm and sincere Merry Christmas and may the next year be a million times better than this one ;)

TFS and Happy Holidays!

Hi Niek

Bless - I hope you are feeling a bit better now, get well soon.

This is an interesting and creative post. Wonderful shapes and textures. Nice exposure and very sharp

Have a lovely Christmas

Hallo Niek,

Hi Niek,

You are getting quite good at this close up photography. This is a wonderful sharp image. The patterns are great and the lighting is super. What would have been the dimensions of this scene in real life? You know that I am always partial to your intimate/abstract compositions. I like this one a lot. Let's hope that the new year will good for all of us and especially good for Mother Nature who occupies so much of our energies.

TFS today, yesterday and tomorrow : )

Hi Niek,
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you.
Wonderful shot and a fabulous presentation of this nature's beauty. Looks majestic and artistic. Great lighting and the top POV chosen is apt to show the intricate details. Very nicely composed too. Kudos.

Hi Niek and Merry Christmas.
You've captured one of mother natures pieces of art. Ice can be very artistic and creative within it's self. Especially the way the light hits it and brings out interesting and unique detail. Well captured.

Sorry to hear you've been fighting a cold.

Season's Greeting to you and your loved one.

Hi Niek

Not sure if you have already celebrated Christmas (is it not the 4th in Holland?), but just in case - Merry Christmas or belated Merry Christmas.

Love the composition, simple yet elegant and the light catching it is also really great.

Hi Niek!

Your picture remembers me "mine". I like walking along the little river near to my house and watch the ice formations. You have well captured these delicate and amazing shapes and patterns. They are like fingerprints: all are similar, but never the same.

Kind regards
