...was the last time I visited this place. It was a field excusion of my biology class. Our teacher showed us many different plants. It was actually the first time I saw Sundew.

About two weeks ago I decided I wanted to revisit the area. Its funny what details maps can do to your location planning. You find locations close to your home you never knew of and you relocated spots you forgot. I can really recommend to buy a detailed map of your own neighborhood. I am sure you will find great photo spots you did not know excisted.

This little fen is called Hondeven which translates into to Dog fen. This little lake is an ognip. Which means that it was formed after the pingo collapsed at the time the ice of the last ice age melted. This area is one of the last areas in my country where Black Crowberry can be found. I will have to return to this location this spring to see it flowering and see what it does to this little piece of paradise.

Hi Niek,
Nicely composed image with the golden grass fan in the FG and the curve to the BG large tree. Nice reflection and light also. This could almost pass as a Minnesota wetland.
Do you know the name of the large pine in the BG?

Hello Niek,
Great location for photo spot just like you said!
great pov to capture the fen also the beautiful reflection, a lot of depth in the shot too!
a very pleasant composition to view and enjoy

Some fine detail in the image there Niek. The vertical curve with added refection is an interesting approach. A Fen is a rather interesting thing. I lived on the edge of a quite famous one called Inglenook Fen in Northern California from 1979-85. You can see my house and the fen is just to the green area...all of it is well studied by folks from all over teh world..something grow here that grow nowhere else...Click Here

Hi Niek,
a superb composition, quite a dynamic foreground, full of detail and texture leading round to those great trees in the background, all perfectly exposed with excellent DOF.
This place could easily be within 3 miles of where i live you know. I have been revisiting some old favourite spots of mine recently on my time off too, and what you say about buying a map of your local are is so true. I think you would enjoy shooting in the New Forest :o) Very well done,

Hi Niek,
I really like your composition here. The vertical framing places great emphasis on the curving grassy shore line. A perfect leading line to the tree and its reflection in the water. Beautiful light and a spot on exposure.

Well done my friend,

Hi Niek,
Oh I so much like your POV with the tall grasses in the foreground and catching the reflection in the blue water, it does seem like it would be a beautiful place in the spring for sure...TFS

Hallo Niek,

Na 20 jaar eindelijk nog eens terug op deze schitterende lokatie, je hebt vast door je schoolboeken zitten spitten.
Pracht shot met mooie natuurlijke kleuren en een perfecte compositie

Hello Niek,
A lovely colour palette, I guess this was a couple of days before your region was hit by the frost!
The dry straws stand out so well with the rich blue water, attrtactive curved line in the composition...
Good feeling of depth and an effective lead-in to the tree in the back!

Hoi Niek,

Hello Niek !
I totally agree with you as for the beautiful places around our homes - often you don't have to go far if you look closely, I experienced this myself many times. As for the picture, it is truly wonderful. Nice natural colors, excellent composition and POV, beautiful details throughout the whole picture, and of course the landscape is wonderful. Very well done !
I wish you all the best for the new year to come !

Hi Niek,
I'm happy you visited this place again and made this wonderful shot. This is realy a paradise, I love the big tree and its reflections on the ice, the atmosphere is so silent and clear, thanks, a fantastic shot

Hallo Niek,

Bob

I really like the curve of the water line framing the the nice reflections Niek. I'm glad you discovered a new spot to photograph. I think the polarizer caused a bit of unevenness in the sky... more saturated in the center. It is not overly noticeable. I'm sensitive to it because I have so much trouble with polarizers.

The weatherman keeps warning of snow today but nothing so far. I was so hoping to find some photo ops around home.

Hello Niek,
Fabulous image with great lines and superb focus and exposure.
I like the skiff of ice just forming on the pond.

Good one, Niek! And so true - unless you're in the middle of a big city - you usually never have to travel far to see these little wonders of nature. Well composed shot!
Cheers, Klaus

Hi Niek

What a beautiful spot to have in your neighborhood. As ever beautifully composed and nicely sharp with excellent DOF. The light looks stunning as well

Hi Niek,
What a wonderful composition. I'm amazed by what kind of colors this filter can bring out. This water and grasses in foreground are so beautiful! This is a superb landscape. Happy New Year!

Hi Niek,
this is a superbs shot o a landscape. Thr perspective created by the riverbanks is really breathtaking. The blueness of the water is excellent. What i like most is the pleasant inclusion of tall grass as a specil elements in the foreground.
Really lovely and a well planned shot.
