Well, I wouldn't know about the "temprano" part, but your namesake looks so "regale" from here! Perfect flash-assisted lighting plus good POV and adequate DOF, and that glinting eye produced a very nice composition, TFS.

Funny name, but not a funny matter. You are right: if there is one more big ave of cold coming up soon, it will be fatal for them :(
It's the same case here, when in other years i saw many trees in bloom earlier, then cold came again and froze them completely...everything was lost. Same goes for animals.
Leaving that saide, your shot is a very nice one. The clarity of the details and the textures are gorgeous! Your Canon 100mm Macro worked perfectly once more!
Very nice DOF and great low POV, as well.

This certainly is 'temprano'! Must be the global warming that is activating the Common Toad in January.
This is an excellent image with fine use of flash without causing disturbing reflections, excellent low POV and superb focusing to give good sharpness in the right places.
We must look out for amphibiand now in S. Sweden!

I was not in your gallery for long time...
Really when I saw this photo for the first time, I thiough that this is just a "Bufo from Bufo" ;)
Of course a very nice and beautiful picture with good sharpness and details, but still a rather very common species. But after reading you very interesting note additional points were added! It is really very unique situation to abserve this species as active in January!
it would be nice to know what is going on with these amphibians now :) Do they mate? Or maybe they are sleeping again? :)

PS. By the way, did you know that in Romania (Oradea county) there are some hydrothermal springs where frogs mate 3 times per year? Also in winter period! (these data are after out Romanian friend - Horia :>)
