[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Grenspoel (border pond) was formed by stagnating melt water during the last ice age. The pond is named the Grenspoel because the border of the province Drente and Friesland runs right through the center of the pond. I am actually standing on the Drente site looking toward the Friesland side of the lake.

After departing from my previous location and came up to the pond slightly to the left of those two trees. I knew where the sun would set and knew that this location had potential. Knowing that I had about 30 minutes left before the colors would change I looked from some photos ops with good floodlight on the distant shoreline. I had to go back and forward on this photo to make sure that my ugly shadow wouldn't show up on the final result.

I was trying to get the texture of the ice on the photo as good as possible, but the ice didn't allow me to stand on it being that it was slightly over 1cm thick. Who knows the freezing temperatures will return and give me the opportunity to actually go on the ice. I doubt that it will happen and I am not looking for cold wet feet.

Hello Niek,
Well composed with great details, color, & depth.
One can just see the lightly frozen textures of the pond here, nice :)
Well done & Happy Holidays!
Howard
PS - Good idea to stay off the ice for now @ 1cm thick ;}

Hi Niek,
this is a well composed picture with very nice depth.
Fine sharpness and very good DOF, the details from FG to BG are well seen. Well exposed with nice colours.
The ice looks very thin, we call it "nattgammal is", night old ice.
Well done.
Have a nice weekend.
Gert

Hello Niek,
This is really beautiful!! No clutter, very simple and pleasing to look at. Beautiful contrasting colours - warm grasses and cool ice beyond! A very nice low POV and excellent DOF too!
Many thanks and cheers, Ulla

Hi Niek,

Erg goed gedaan.
Goed weekend,
Peter

Hello Niek,
This frozen lake looks like a beautiful place to skate when the ice is thicker.
I used to skate on rinks a lot and have often fantasised about skating in a place such as this.
Great DOF and light, nice sharp details.
Good composition.

Niek, This is a good shot and with lovely information. Nice note and thanks for sharing Ganesh

Hi Niek,

This is really nice Niek. I love the really deep foreground and pond leading to the narrower band of sky with those two trees connecting both. I really like the colors in this image. It doesn't look a bit dark. I love the grasses and the curved line of them hooking around... and so am not sorry that you couldn't go out onto the ice. Lovely work and well thought out as usual...

Hello Niek !
Another awesome landscape from you - how do you do to get such wonderful pictures each time ? Even when something looks quite plain, you manage to bring out something exceptional, like this one. Composition and POV are as close to perfect as possible, very natural colors, and I also like the reflections of the trees in BG on the water. Very well done !
Valerie.
