Happy Easter to all TN members.

Today, at Easter, I saw the first duck chicks. A sign of new life in spring.
This photo is taken this afternoon in front of my house.
This is the chick of a Mallard, Anas platyrhynchos.

Mallards form pairs only until the female lays eggs, at which time she is left by the male. The clutch is 8–13 eggs, which are incubated for 27–28 days to hatching with 50–60 days to fledging. The ducklings are precocial, and can swim and feed themselves on insects as soon as they hatch, although they stay near the female for protection. Mallards also have rates of male-male sexual activity that are unusually high for birds. In some cases, as many as 19% of pairs in a Mallard population are male-male homosexual.

When they pair off with mating partners, often one or several drakes will end up "left out". This group will sometimes target an isolated female duck — chasing, pestering and pecking at her until she weakens (a phenomenon referred to by researchers as rape flight), at which point each male will take turns copulating with the female. Male Mallards will also occasionally chase other males in the same way.

Hi Peter.
Simply amazing POV and composition of the shot. It is fairly rare. You have pictured this fluffy creature amazingly. I like excellent DOF, nice details of the bird and sweet colours. Small waves around the duck chick create a fine BG. Well done and TFS.

Hi Peter,

How perfect for Easter! This baby duck is adorable and you captured him perfectly. I love the head on pov showing off his beak and eyes. Colors and fluffy textures are wonderful. The water droplets are a bonus. The water with the patterns and reflection makes a fine background.

Hi Peter,

You have photographed here a very cute model !
I like the frontal view very much
this duckling is good focused
great natural colors
Have a good evening

Hallo Peter
A little cutie you've captured here. Nice colours in the water and sharpness on the bird. Nice composition which is vital to complete the shot. I like the golden colours in the plumage as well as the black V shape from the nose, through the eyes, that is so clearly seen. The water movement and the water droplets rounds of this lovely image to its best. Best regards

Tebrik ederim.

Hello Peter, Nice composition of this new little duck. Good lighting, the golden yellow color is very nice. Good sharpness and details.

Bonjour Peter
Si Le sujet est terriblement mignon, ta photo est terriblement réussie. la netteté nous offre beaucoup de détails.

Hallo Peter,

Een lief klein eendje met goode detailering.
Lijkt me iets te veel verzadigd maar het is een sweety.

My dear friend Peter,
Thank you so much for contributing this cutie to my theme "juveniles"
It is a most attractive photo. The tight cropping frames very pleasant ly the animal and emphasizes the glorious reflections.

Thanks again
Warm greetings
