Graphium agamemnon agamemnon (Tailed Jay)
The Tailed Jay is a swift-flying butterfly and is often encountered flitting from flower to flower, stopping for a second or two sipping the nectar. Its favourites are Lantana and Ixora blooms.
The upperside of this butterfly comprise apple-green spots on a black background. The hindwing has a short tail, which is longer in the female. On the underside, the purple-brown ground colour has the same green spotting as well as some dark patches and red spots on the underside of the hindwing.
The caterpillar is known to feed on Annonaceae species, of which a particular favourite is the Yellow Chempaka

yes this one I toook for two mounth back in the butterfly garden. It is a must for every photographer to good there and making some experience shots. This is one. I hope you like the shot,
gr. Jaap

Hello Jaap, this is an excellent butterfly shot. Pose is excellent, good work, very good sharpness, details, colours and composition. But I think your butterfly isnīt a Papilio nireus - itīs an Graphium agamemnon from south east asia. Itīs very difficult to make a good shot about this butterfly. Well done.

Ha Jaap,

A very interesting shot and nice detailed with a beautifull color combination.
A butterfly garden (Ommen?) is excellent to shoot these pictures. (My safari doesn't go much further then the back garden).

Sorry, for the break, my old father is in hospital so I didn't had much inspiration.

Hi Jaap,
quick shot, hahaha, you wanted to write: wonderful shot!
I've never seen such a butterfly, you have so beautiful insects in your garden/country, I cannot find such animals here. And now you have a new fine camera, a good makro-lense, time and wonderful motives, so I'm looking forward what is coming next, I hope you will enjoy it very much, bye

Jaap, this is one beautiful butterfly but In My Honest Opinion, i'v seen better picture of you...
The focus is off and the butterfly is very blur, it seems like you shot this photo in Digital Zoom , a thing not very wise to do.

Lovely shot Jaap, Iv seen this butterfly a few times myself and it sure is a beauty. Very nice post.

Never seen this one Jaap. A real beauty here. Thank You.

Dag Jaap,

Stunning capture Jaap, for such a quick flyer you've caught him perfectly. His wings look like satin. This is a beautiful shot, well done and thank you.

This is a lovely critter, Jaap. I found them in a butterfly house on my vacation and could not ID them because they are an exotic species. Now I know. Very well done.
