This was taken on my trip to Spitzbergen. I was in a zodiac and the light was really bad, so the depth of field could be better. The polar bears are looking at the occupants of another zodiac - and deciding it they fancied them or the dead sperm whale they were feasting on!

Taken with my 300mm 2.8 + 1x4 converter.

Hi James. One may be two but to get all Four at once is just good luck. They all have there eyes on somthing must be food as you say. You good well detail shot shows the long coat and the large feet . TFS.
Nick..

Hello James,

What do they call a group of polar bears?
It should be a choir. They look ready to break into song, with a soloist and a backing group!

Very good details of their shaggy coats and tiny eyes!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

very good pic, TFS Ori

hello James,

Good capture from these Polar bears.
Perfect colours and details.

Gert

Your super image besides, your wealth of knowledge is priceless...one day the world shall discover you....why is it folks who are most "famous" now are discovered after they pass...Can you give me citations for the generations living on one piece? A wonderful image of the bears of course...Tres' cool.!
bob

Hello James,
Splendid capture of these beauties:)! TFS.
Regards,

Bahadır

Hi James, 10/10 for this, I have seen the Bears on Spitzbergen and Northern Canada before, it still amazes me how big they look and the speed they can move if they want...this is a really good image to capture all 4 animals. I do remember reading several years ago that some scientists on Spitzbergen became food for a bear or two..tfs

Hi James,
A Splendid and lovely capture! TFS.
Regards,
Deniz

Hi James,

Nice picture of Polar Bears from a place which is very high on my list of places to visit. Very good pose and composition, nice sharp details, BG and colours if there are any left that far North?

Hola James.
Bella la imagen de estos 4O Osos Polares. La foto es exelente aun cuando las condiciones no son las ideales para la fofografia, pues el buen uso de la camara y lente da a esta imagen una calidad exelente.
Saludos James.

Hi James,
wonderful group shot of them all looking in the same direction! You did a great job in difficult circumstances.
I'm curious, i know that they need to hunt on Ice during the winter for seals etc, but how do they hunt in the summer? The only reason i ask is that they are under threat from global warming due to the receding ice, but if there's none in the summer they must eat somehow..I'm probably being completely stupid!
Anyway, thanks!
Paul

Actually James I kind of like your depth of field like this, with the rear bear fading out. I'd say under the conditions you did great. These are beautiful animals, well captured in this shot, very good colour and detail seen on the bears, and I like how you've captured the gravel underfoot, as well as the water. We can almost picture the environment here as well.

Thanks, John

Hi my beloved friend James,
Superb shot of these polar bears with nicely DOF although you take this capture when you were in a boat. Great work! TFS.
Cheers,
Bayram

Hello JAmes,
Wow, they look so close!! Fantastic to see four of them posing like this in the wild. Great focus on the first one showing fantastic details of its coat and the three beyond fit in so well. Brilliant shot!
Many thanks, Ulla

James,
What can one comment or say about perfection...Well, I guess, that this is a perfect shot, among the best I've ever seen.
THanks!

Hi James,
what an excellent capture!
I love how they're all looking in the same direction :-)
Very good POV and composition.
Excellent exposure too.
Sharp and crisp.
Must have been a very impressive sight!
Well done!

Joe

Hello James!
Very nice picture, especially for someone like me - who was on Spitsbergen :) Anyway, you were very lucky, to see 4 polar bears in one place - it is not easy :) I really have to say that when I was there, I saw one one - dead bear :(
Best greetings and TFS!

Hello James,
I bet anything they would prefer fresh meat, so I would be a little intimidated. Your image is outstanding James, with excellent timing in that they are all staring at the other Zodiac. Thanks for this fine piece of work James.

Hi James,
It's nice to see four of them in a single frame. You managed to get a very good result under poor light conditions. I like the scene you captured and compositon a lot. TFS
Best wishes,
Selen

Hello James
I saw a great capture of yours from another corner of the world, Norway in the north. Ursus maritimus or Thalarctos maritimus family gave to you a nice pose. Focus, composition, POV and exposure great. thanks for sharing, have a nice weekend
Ahmet

Hello James,
The big one in front has a really fine fur coat!
I guess there is only a big meal that can make four of them stick peacefully together...
Interesting to see how their attention is focused!
Greetings,
Pablo -
