The scenery and title fits my mood exactly…

Warning to all… do backup your image files!! And others too for that matter…

Wednesday my computer broke down, denied to restart after a Windows update. Checking BIOS I experienced OS recognize neither of the two hard drives, one of them full of video and images and no backup worth mentioning! Thousands of original files were out of my reach, as my backup was limited to post processed images…

Hopefully I will be able retrieve the files, after talking to an expert today I found some hope! Now I have to send the hard drive to the retrieval company, then they will analyse the problem. If there is no serious physical damage to the disc they can save my image files, for a bucket of money…

Right now I’m uploading from my laptop, an old file, as I dislike to photoshop on this little toy!

Let the sky here be symbolic for my mood today...

Just for the record, the image is underexposed for effect!

Hi Pablo,
Always a frightening experience to loose data for a computer failure, that remind me that consciousness can vanish in a instant!
But your photo is really beautiful and looks great, magicial and wonderful, not as a dark and sinister event.
Have a good weekend and get an external USB drive to backup data in a fly!

friend Pablo,
Worth waiting for your outstanding posting always!
this one is no exception on this awesome stormy weather!

Hi Pablo

This is amazing photograph - Like looking through a key hole.

I had an external HD break down and I spoke to the company who pointed me in the direction of 3 free recovery programmes - I think I still have them on my PC. I recovered about 95% of the content - but the programme took about 36 hours to do it (it was 300GB though). Let me know if you need them.

The drama is superb here, and the underexposure is just what it needed. I love the depth of colour in the mountains and that bit of blue sky.

BTW: After I saw your back-up warning on another of your images (on TL, perhaps?) I immediately plugged in my external hard drive and backed up the past 5 weeks of files. thanks for reminding us how easy it is to lose things!

TFS and good luck with the recovery

Hi Pablo,

The sun is always shining behind the clouds (-: What a superb photo you have posted men. Is the weather really so bad in Norway at this moment??? Or is it your computercrash. I give you a smile. The contrast between the for and Bg thats is marvelous. And that light up in the mountains. Regards, TFS and good luck with the recovery. Bob

Hello Pablo,
What a dreadful experience. I understand your mood and I really hope you'll be able to retrieve your files!
This fantastic picture certainly reflects your mood and looks very ominous. I like the DOF with the sharp mountains in the far distance and the rippled water in the foreground. Terrific light effect.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Pablo,
I am sorry you had this bad experience. I have my images on an external HD but often wonder what I would do if someone stole it.

Your image is great and it displays your mood well, dark and gloomy. I hope you have success in retrieving your images.

Hi Pablo,
A horrible and heart breaking experience to have the hard disk crash and loose all precious data. Hope you manage to retrieve all your data soon. Please save your data in an external drives henceforth.
This is a superb shot of the stormy weather illustrating your present mood pretty well, even I feel bad after reading about it. The underexposure works well here to portray the ambience and the glow in the sky looks stunning. The rippled waters and silhouetted mountains and trees gives it a marvellous effect. Very nicely composed and presented. Kudos.

Hello Pablo

Lovely atmosphere. I really like the effect the light in the far-end creates in the picture.

PS. sorry to hear about the files ... hope you are able to retrieve.

hi pablo,
beautiful post, the light and the dark play very interesting role here, the image is well composed with fine pov,
well done,
tfs & regards

Thanks for the warning, Pablo.
I am distressed to hear about your desktop hard drive going bonkers. Let us hope and pray that the techies restore your valuable data.
Even though the image reflects your mood, it is still one of your best landscape images in my opinion. In fact, this is perhaps the best landscape picture I have seen on TN.
I love the play of light in this image, particularly that sepia tinted brighter segment of the sky flanked by those amazing layers of shades and tones on either side of it.
Thanks a lot for sharing this really artistic image.
And Good Luck in your salvage operation.

Hi Pablo.
Amazing image, I would love to see this in a panorama where we could see more detail of that wonderful colour on the horizon with a little of the lake and storm clouds.
Wonderful exposure with great detail.

Hola Pablo.
La tormenta está encima.
Los detalles son estupendos. A lo lejos se aprecia algo de claridad en las montañas, pero en la cercanía el cielo está plomizo, gris.
Buena panorámica amigo.
Buen fin de semana, Juan Luis.

lovely play of light in this image its shows your mood, amazing capture, well done.

Hi Pablo,
Dark & foreboding mood, with stormy weather ahead..I did a WS to + the exposure a stop..
I understand you under-exposed for effect...
Just wanted to see what it looked like this way :)
Well done.

Hi Pablo, fascinating light in a splendid sky with great clouds, wonderful composition, very well done, have a nice week end, ciao Silvio

Amazing lighting effects. There's tremendous depth to this photo on all levels.
Sorry about the computer. I will start making backups. I've been lazy about it in the past.

Hi Pablo.
What an impressive shot and perfect reproduction of complex colour and light tones. Superb work of great artist. In XIX century the famous Russian paint writer lived. The key point of his creative work was surprising work with light. His evening, night and other landscape and forest pictures made at dark key were terrific. Any spectator did not believe that it were paints and not were electric light. Your landscape have reminded me his work. Bravo and TFS.

Hi dear Pablo ,

Hi Pablo
wonderfull effect with good shrapness

Beautiful, beautiful picture. I have lost almost every picture I ever took traveling, (one time I was gone 4 1/2 years). My cds have been stolen, or damaged by others. My hard drives got virus from cyber cafes, an antivirus cd complete with a virus from bangkok, and electrical current in the Tibet Gues house, Kathmandu. I had a back up made in Bangalore at the Iomega store, they only copied 5 out of 60 gigabytes, pretended they did all 60gigabytes by repeating the 5 over an dover on the Iomega hard drive. They we transferring them to fix my lap, after they had crashed my laptop with the external hard drive they sold me. In Loas, I wanted a file put back on the latop, and the man reduced 60 gigabytes of 5 mg pictures to 1 mg, then 99 bytes to move faster (did it all in 2 hours)...... said he did not think they were important, did the same on 30 cds he had made. The list is endless, trust no one get a program, do it your self! I telll you the name of the one I think might work, Phoenix Stellar, get free demo from tuocows onlne. I am waiting for it to be activated, about 10 days now. I should get 360,000 gigabytes back from the 60 gigabyte Toshiba lap top computer, everything i ever lost I hope. I will tell the world if it works or does not work. I paid 3 different places to retreive pictures erased by Compac a few years ago. They replaced a recalled part, erased 20 gigabytes of hard drive for no reason, againest my wishes. I paid $50 to two different well known computer places in the USA, who took the money, and did nothing! I have the hard drive in my storage, I will try it next!

It is an effective image to reflect your mood. As they say, "It is not a question of 'if" your hard drive fails, it is a question of 'when' it fails". They all fail sooner or later so back up , back up, back up. I overdo it. I have originals on disks and external hard drive. Enhanced versions are on my computer in various slideshows etc. I also back up the enhanced versions. Even so I have lost some images due to file number mixups and dumb mistakes. I wish you luck with your retrieval of files. I hope dark and gloomy is soon bright and cheery! If good wishes help, it seems you have a lot of them here!

Evelynn : )

Hi Pablo,
Sorry to read about this sad news. I sure hope that you did had some luck with the recovery. I keep back ups and they are on DVD's and CD's at work. Just so they are not in the same building as the originals.

The mood of this photo fits the situation perfectly. Beside that, it is a very wonderful photo with great light on the mountains in the distance. AS they say, there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Pablo

Missed this one becuase I was on holiday or about to go...

I love the picture... It is really moody. I hope it did not cost too much to get the images back. Too many of my IT professionals charge a fortune for something that can be done for very little money outlay... (£20 for an adapter and a computer (laptop or dekstop) that works is all you need when the hard drive is not damaged with just a corrupt OS).

Great light and composition....
