Kvitsoya,the end of the world....
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|A total different picture from my side, but for me a memorable one and for sure a new subject on TN,this picture has been made on white Island in the Svalbard Archipelago,it is one of the most difficult Islands to reach as the sea around is almost covered with ice and sometimes with a lot of polar bears,we were lucky that day and could make a landing, although it was very cold windy (no good photographic weatherconditions so to say),however I wanted to show one of the most remote places on earth.|
The place is special as well as this is the place where Andree balloon expedition ended, for those who are curious a nice story of this expedition can be found here in the wikipedia,as well you can see the location of white Island or kvitsoya
btw the square you see in the picture is the monument dedicated to Andree and its expedition,I will post anothe add picture of this monument in ws

A good record of this desolate icy landscape that makes one freeze to look at it. The alternating ice and gravel makes the image interesting with a fine pattern.
I have been to the Andree museum in Gränna, his home town.
Thanks and best regards,
