The largest Polish grebe, the size of the duck equals the cross. No sexual dimorphism in plumage. In the mating robe, a long white neck, on the head two dark brown tops (hence the name) and a rusty-black sideburns. In birds in the second calendar year of life, the tops can be reduced. The top of the body is dark brown, the sides are brownish-brown. White breast. In the robe, no sideburns, no tips barely marked. In flight on the upper side of the wings show a white spot. The tail is reduced, the brakes are short and flexible. Chicks with oblong black stripes on the head and neck, the remains of which can be seen in autumn, in the first resting robe.
