Why this title? Look at my WS and you will see how proper it is.

There is a very interesting wood near my house. Used to there was a swamp and for most part of the year the trees very actaully growing in water, bit some years ago it was unfortunatelly dreid out and now it's a kingdom of moss that grows almost on every tree (I will probably post of photo of this great plase in the future).

Anyway, it is European alder forest and these blue fellows really like it. I don't really know if they actually eat it, but no doubt they just love to sit on the young alder trees.

As you see on my photo it is probably their mating season. Some of you will probably think that I put the beetles there, but believe me there is plenty of such leaves full of beetles there.
These are quite small fellows in the size simmilar to Ladybird, but I didn't found the ID. I think it could be some species from Chrysomelidae family but I'm not sure.
If anyone knows something more, please share cause I'm very curious what it is :-)

Thanks to Alan I can upload the note.
So little by accident I think I have the right ID. It probably is Agelastica alni. You know what is their common name? Alder Leaf Beetle ;-) This is so simple, that now I can't believe that I couldn't find it much earlier.

At least now I know why they love to sit on these leaves ;-)

Yeah, I know those guys very well :-) Thera are thousands of them in Botanical Garden here. I took few photos of them and probably I'll send it after Romanian flood ;-) I like colours on your picture Monika, shinning blues and fresh green. Good composition and BG. And, of course, I like your spiky logo :-)

Hello Monika,

This is a very good post; the picture in combination with the WS, the note and the title really tell a story and that's great. Composition of the photo is very good and the colors are great. These little bugs seem to be painted with metallic carpaint. ;) I do think the details aren't so sharp. It's almost like the outerlines are distorted. Did you crop a lot? The POV is very good. TFS!

Well they are here in the UK too today , have taken a few shots not looked at yet of a lot of these on the side of pond they seemed to congregating to mate.
Not the sharpest image , possibly slightly too enlarged as an image, but we can still see them well.
like the new thistle sig.

witaj:) troszke DOF zabrakło, jednak bardzo ładna kompozycja:) podoba mi sie bardzo:)

Hi Monica, very nice post of these shiny insects. I wonder what do they find on those leaves.
Very good Dof and composition.

Great capture Monika,
the have such a great metallic blue shine. Good composition and as always, great notes.
I've found a similar beetle in a book I have. Gastrophysa viridula - commonly green, but can have a strong blue sheen. found in waterside habitats, about 4-8mm.
Hope this is of some use, thanks for posting

Ale robale, Moniko. £adnie kontrastuje ich kolor z zieleni±. Mam co¶ takiego ale pojedyncze. Fajne, nieostre t³o.

Wonderful shot Monica!
Lighting, colors,DOF and composition are perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent composition and color scheme. Lovely metalic shine. Very well done Monica.

Nice and unusual grouping of these beetles Monika, love the glossy exterior, good work.

Fantastic colours on the beetles, and I like the lack of colour in the background, almost black and white, makes the main subject stand out even more.
Well done.
