Hello my Friends!
Today a short break from landscape photos and a return to world of insects! ;>

This is a very "fresh" picture taken just 3 days ago in Chociszew village. As you can see the Raynox is working! ;>

The object from this picture is probably well known to everybody, it is just a female specimen of St. Mark's fly - Bibio marci (Bibionidae) (in Polish: len marcowy). The flower: Taraxacum officinale.
Here in TN's gallery there are many presentations and notes about this species so I believe that there is no reason to repeat it :>

Anyway I decided to present you a few additional data about this group of flies in general :>

Diversity: in total some 650-700 species (in genus Bibio in Europe only 14).

Age: family known from fossils from the Jurassic period (numerous fossils from Upper Cretaceous).

Ecological importance: larvae are herbivores and scavengers feeding on dead vegetation or living plant roots; adults are pollinators.

And last but not least I would like to dedicate this photo to our Friend from India - Haraprasan Nayak (haraprasan) :>

Hello Radomir,

Excellent sharp picture of this bibio marci. Very good POV, great DOF and very good detail. Excellent contrast against the background.

Hi Radomir

A great close-up shot - good composition and POV with good colour and superb detail. Well observed and captured.

Hi Radomir

My friend you must remember you are posting to a global audience. Perhaps your colleagues in Europe know it well, but I have never seen this species before (lol).
The close-up lens owrks really well. Good details of the fly and flower and the exposure of bright and dark subjects is good to.

Hello Radomir,
greeting, this is really great macro on yellow Taraxacum flower. excellent sharp detail, splendid coloration. composition and POV great. thanks for sharing, best wishes my friend

Hello Radomir,

Good presentation from this insect.
good of sharpness and details.
The wings are specially coloured.

Hi Radomir,
I'm back from a bicycle trip and realize that I missed some of the action on TN. Here you present us with the ultimate portrait of Bibio marci, so difficult to photograph because of its pitch-black colour. But you use the flash with all the skill. The backround is ideal for this fly. My compliments, Radomir.
Best regards,

Hi Radek, my dear friend,
Superb macro shot of this female of Saint Mark's fly with excellent details, wonderful DOF and POV!. Also I love the details of the yellow flower my friend. Amazing composition! I think this pose also "mobile" :-) TFS my friend!

PS. I also loved your description : "very natural but also very "mobile" :>:>

Hi Radek,
Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful St. Mark's fly female. I think I posted a male one of this species whose head portion is much more flatter and bigger than this. Anyway I like this composition very much. Excellent composition and sharp details. Thanks a lot for the dedication my friend.

hello Radomir,
Very eye-catching your picture! Impressive insects, the St. Mark's flies. I had already the opportunity to take pictures of this fly, but lost them ,like a lot of others, in the break-down of my PC. But I have to say your picture ia anyway a lot better. Bravo

A finely reproduced couple and a fine dedication to our friend HP Radomir, somehow black looks so nice on yellow my friend, thank you for sharing this beautiful macro scene with us.

Hi Rado, welcome back in my prefered ground!Fantastic quality of this fly and perfect colours of the taraxacum, not easy to take so perfectly, the black insect in a yellow ground is terrible!!My Best compliments for this great work,Luciano

Hallo Rodamir
Time is limited at the moment but I could not pass without leaving a few words of appreciation for your posting. This is once again a super sharp photo of this fly, with lots of detail to appreciate. You have managed to capture this fly in an excellent pose and I must admit I have never seen a fly with such pitch black colour. This is a splendid close-up, and the black and yellow is definitely a win combination. Good presentation, excellently displayed. The black see thru wings and the hairy body is a great attraction.
Kind regards.

Hello Radomir,
An excellent macro of Bibio marci on a contrasting yellow composite flower. The sharpness and POV are greatand really show this fly well as an illustration.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Best wishes from Scania,

Hi Radomir, splendid contrast between dark lady and yellow flower, fascinating composition with fantastic details, very well done, have a good week end, ciao Silvio

Your Raynox is very powerful, but so is the man behind it, Radomir.
A superb macro in which the subject stands out sharply against the BG of the flower.
The contrasts are the best aspect of this great image.
Well done and TFS.

Hi Radomir.
First of all many thanks for detailed comments. It is so interesting for me your opinion. Second I am impressed with beautifulness and skillfulness of the image. I took many shots of the flower and know how difficult to get such level of details and colour reproduction. You managed to do it with image of black insect. Its sharpness is stunning. Bravo. Great job.
