A Happy New Year to you, Greg!
This is a wonderful capture of a Middle-spotted Woodpecker, a species that became extinct in Sweden 25 years ago and it is great that you have it in the Lodz municipal park.
Excellent sharp shot taken from a fine POV against a pleasing neutral BG.
Thanks for sharing this beauty, not often seen on TN!

I wish you a Happy New Year and I thank youfor the nice photo you have posted. You have teken the image from a very inspired POV making a good conection with the titel of the image. The bird is sharply shown so that good details can be observed. The nice and blurry background brings even more value to the imange.
Thank you for sharing,

Hi Greg. Well here we go for another year. Good to see this bird in your park. You seem to have so many things to take pictures of . is it a large area. The one looks like its peeping out at you. fine detail and natural colours. well done TFs. Interesting notes too.

Hello Greg !
What a cute new friend you have here - I love his pose and his expression, he looks curious, like he's looking around himself to know what is happening. I ha never seen this bird before, he's beauutiful, and I also like the soft and natural colors. I hope you'll managed to get some other shots from him in your municipal park !
Greetings from France !

Hello Greg, and a Happy New Year to you !
You begin 2009 by bringing us this appallingly bad photo of the miniscule New Guinean Pygmy Shrew Elephant.
It is so dark in the Elephants cave that we can see no details in the scales at all.
Never mind.Perhaps you could try photographing fungi .... or birds ;)
I hope you hjave a gjood njew yjear anyjway :)

Still here...I am somewhat happy you have stopped the Horia contest..although I love it...it was like...I don't know...so many dragongflies and I have practically none...like...why do my kids always say "like dad" and they are grown now...yikes... A fine change of pace for you.

This is a fantastic "new year" shot, crystal clear and razor-sharp, with perfect DOF. And above all, with great humour. :) This specie's also living here in Hungary, but not common.
Tfs this wonderful shot, have a nice day. Regards from Hungary, László

I cannot recall ever noticing this little woodpecker before, so thanks for the introduction.
It seems like a curious little bird as it looks like it is very interested in what you are doing.
Probably this is one of the birds that eat all those wonderful dragonflies you always try to capture.
I like the affirmative eye-contact and the little catchlight.
The details, colour definition, and complimentary BG are all positives.
Thanks for the good wishes for 2009. The same to you and your loved ones too.
Well done and TFS

What a wonderful capture this is!The PoV is exceptional and the composition looks so fine with this half peeping up image of the middle spotted woodpecker. The catchlight in its eyes make it look even more lively and vertical composition adds up to the scene.Perfectly timed and well captured. Look forward to the next two species and more from beautiful and scenic Poland.
Wihsing you and family a healthy and peaceful 2009

I wish to see a Middle spotted woodpecker once, and I'm not even thinking of taking a photograph. It is rare in Switzerland. You caught it in such a nice pose. Who was more surprised, the woodpecker or you? Well done, my friend.
