The Lesser Purple Emperor, or Apatura ilia, is a species of butterfly native to most of Europe and Asia. It is named for its similarity to the Purple Emperor butterfly.
The wingspan is 55-60 mm. The moth flies from June to July depending on the location.

A wonderful picture which you show us here, the sharpness and details are very great. It seems that now is the time of that butterfly because Ive seen also a exemplar on our last trip but it was so nervous that I cant shot them with my camera. Very well done!


Oh I have been in Szczecin a lot in my life but this beauty I have never seen

This is my prefered butterfly,magnificent capture whit the best light position to take so well the purple reflections,you must correct your note,this is a APATURA IRIS and not ILIA.Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano
