This picture was made in the middle of night using macro flash ring. The picture presents moth from family Sphingidae. The moths from this family are big and strong. They can fly tens and hunderds kilometers at night. The body is fat and massive, the wings are very narrow and long. The wingspan of this species is up to 75 mm.
The moths are on the fly in June and July. You can find it in parks and gardens.
The caterpilars feeds on different Gallium foodplants.

Czesc Krzysiek!
Piekna cma. Swietny rysunek na skrzydlach i ciele, ostra i nieprzepalona. Taki flashring to jest jednak swietna rzecz. Bardzo podoba mi sie kompozycja z kwiatami i liscmi. Zdjecie wcale nie wyglada na nocne i robione z lampa. Piekne.

ps. czy moglbys rzucic okiem na moj dzisiejszy post? sfotografowalem cos ladnego, ale nie wiem co to :-)

Ring flash worked well.

you have captured this impressive and pretty hawkmoth very well with excellent details and very natural colours. No impression of artificial light here. A macro flash ring seems to be a really good investment, and you have handled it very well!

Hi Chris, beautiful image. Great exposure and colours making excellent use of flash. I'm tempted to get that flash ring after all now that I've seen this image. I like the details and sharpness and seeing the moth against the BG of leaves and flowers. Very well done :)

an interesting subtype of moths for me. i have never seen like this. its open wings look like jet airplane. point of view, colours, contrast, focus, sharpness and details are great
