Pontia daplidice - family Pieridae.

One of the Pieridae but similar to Melanargia galethea from Nymphalidae. Not rare but this is my first observation since year 2001.

This species can be found on dry meadows and clearings. The maximum wingspan is 42 mm.

There are two generations in year: first in May, second in July and August. The females have more black dots on the wings.

The caterpilars feeds on different Cruciferrae in July and August. The pupa overwinters.

Hi Chris.
Your shot of butterfly is pretty. You have "used" very delicate and impressive colours. BG is well blurred and beautiful. The flower is very nice. At last, the Butterfly is excellent with perfect details. My best regards and TFS.

Hallo Chris,
nice presentation of daplidice which I would like to observe also close to my home. But that's past.
A well composed picture.

Perfect as composition, colours, details and more over difficult for shot especially in hot weather

Good shot Chris.
Great POV and OOF background.
Good contrast and composition.
Great sharpness.

Nice sharp shot of this butterfly which is very rare in Sweden apart from on the island of Gotland. However we've seen one in our area this year! I gather it is quite common in south Europe and wonder how common it is in Poland? Your portrait is excellent!
Thanks, Ulla

Bonita composición Chris con excelente nitidez sobre la mariposa, aunque la flor no aparezca en foco.
Muy buen DOF con un despegue correcto del fondo y adecuado encuadre.
Llamativos detalles en las alas del insecto.
Saludos... Ricardo

Nice composition Chris with excellent clarity on the butterfly, although the flower doesn't appear in focus.
Very good DOF with a correct take off of the backdrop and appropriate frame.
Attractive details in the wings of the insect.
Greetings... Ricardo
