Hello my Friends!
As you know, yesterday Siavash (aisvash) presented an interesting picture with mating behaviour of a robber fly species belonging to genus Heteropogon.
His photo really inspired me so today I decided to show you "the next step" of this behaviour ;>

And here we have a pair of Neoitamus cyanurus (Loew, 1849) (Diptera: Asilidae: Asilinae during copulation.

After a picture with Sphingidae moths this is another photo from the "insect Kamasutra" ;>
But this time male (smaller) is on the top of this "circus-pyramid" ;>

Just to add some more "piquancy", I have to say that the lovers "do this" in public place - female stays on the asphalt road! ;>

And now a few facts about the species...
In Poland about 80 species of Asilidae have been recorded till now, and N. cyanurus is one of the only three species belonging to genus Neoitamus known from this area.
It is a really common robbel fly species, and usually also adundant in forest areas where it hunts for different species of insects, sometimes realtively large ones.
In its menu there are e.g. flies, wasps, beetles, but also... damselflies!!!

This picture was taken in Spala Landscape Park next to "Gac Spalska" Nature Reserve.

Any comments are welcomed :>

Hi Radomir,
Amazing and cristal clear macro!
You took the best from your Coolpix, in this excellent image, so well illuminated and plenty of sharp details.
Great the use of the fill flash and the exposure in general.
This vertical composition chosen works pretty well with this scene.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.

Hi Ramdomir,
Excellent close-up with very good details, colours, sharpness and pose. Background goes well the instect colours and the small touch of colour in eyes and legs gives a great life to the shot.

Hello radomir,
Thisis an incredibly sharp shot of a pair of mating Robber Flies, though as far as I can see they haven't succeeded in connecting yet. Beautifully composed and presented shot.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Magnifique binôme, belle netteté
Bonne journée.

Co za podglądactwo !! ;> Tutaj ktoś chce przedłużać ciągłość gatunku a jakiś facet z aparatem ustawia się i fotki robi :)
Ale żarty na bok. Świetne zdjęcie - kompozycja i ostrość bez zarzutu. Może to skrzydło jedno na końcu nieco mniej wyraźne, ale za to bardzo mi się podoba, ze widać wszystkie te szczeciny na głowie i tułowiu.

Really amazing photo, Radomir. You did catch the action right on time. Superb clarity and sharpness. Informative note, too: I'm suprised they can eat wasps.
Best wishes,

Pieknie!

Hi Radomir and sorry for the delay

This is another fascinating macro from you, my friend!
What an amazing moment captured!
The magnification and definition of levels you managed to get out from your Nikon is amazing!
Also the DOF is impeccable managed here - keeping both of them in very goof focus and also isolated from the BG.
Excellent lighting and exposure, lovely colors and great vertical compo.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Radomir,
with you I will have to repeat myself, keywords are: highly unusual and interesting object; excellent rendering; impeccable photographic technique ; and your note shows your profound biological knowledge. But your specialty is bringing out the beauty of small grey insects. "Weiter so"!
