[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a small and beautiful moth (Opisthograptis luteolata).
It's a moth that belongs to the Geometridae Ennominae family.
Not common in Portugal.
The photo was tacked at night, using the flash, around 23:24, at Sierra da Estrela, the greatest mountain in Portugal.
Known as Brimstone Moth in english.
This specie starts flying in early dusk. Is easily attracted to light and is often seen around lit windows or outside lights, so it was attracted to the trap by the fluorescent light on the trap.
It keeps its wings slightly upwards and by doing so looks like a butterfly even more. Being yellow like that with a few chestnut brown patches there is no other species like it, so identifying it is extremely easy.
The wingspan is variable: 28 to 44 mm. Females are bigger than males and animals of the first generation are bigger than those of later generations.
The caterpillar lives on a number of trees and shrubs, but apple, maythorn and hawthorn seem to be most popular.
By my experience, it seems to be a good model for photographers as it is not easily disturbed during daylight and in some cases might even be handled gently.

What a beautiful and interesting moth that you have well captured ! I have never see this specie. Sharpness seems a bit soft ! Thanks for sharing Paulo.

Hello Paulo, nice shot. The colours are good and it's a pretty good composition. I think it is a little soft in focus but not too bad. Well done.

Thanks ana:)

Another very good capture. The background is not very attractive but the most important is object - not the background ;-D
Really well done
