I found this amazing field of wildflowers growing on the silt bed of Lacul Rosu, or Red Lake, with the sun yet to rise above the nearby peaks. I have posted some from here in colour but I liked the way B&W worked with this image also. I'd like to know what others think also. Lacul Rosu is a natural mountain lake high in the Carpathian mountains, formed following a large landslide from a nearby mountain blocked a river valley, killing a shepherd and his flock. Shot around 7 am at 1.5 seconds.

Lovely shot Steve. The B & W works well here and is an interesting choice when used with flowers, as most people i think would use the colour no doubt found in them to fill the foreground.
Instead you have used their form and varied light tones, which could have failed to have an impact. Pleased to say thats not the case here, imo it works very well indeed.
Lot's of depth and wonderful light too, great shot as always.

Your choice of B&W is always a nice one Steve.....I still have an eye for that format after 40 plus years working with it. I really wish there were a way to do Zone V with it...I know it has been attempted but none to my satisfaction yet. Perhaps someone will one day sit down and figure out Ansel's math behind the picture and make it a part of a cameras firmware. Or maybe someone will read this and pass it on to someone who might give it a shot...Great picture as only you do in your own unique way.

Hi Steve,
Beautiful shot - I'm a big fan of atmospheric black and white images and this is a great example of a successful choice to shoot in black and white. The composition is lovely and the soft light is beautiful.

Hi Steve,
I'm not usually a big fan of B&W for nature pics, but this one looks great.
There are so many textures and a nice misty mood.
I can't help wondering what colour all the flowers are though.
A beautiful shot anyway.

Hi Steve,
I like the soft feel of this photo a lot. It brings such a great tranquil touch to this wonderful view. The conversion to B&W is awesome. It gives such better details and a more peacefull view for the eyes. Great work on getting good contrast in the FG while keeping the soft foggy look in the hills and trees.
