Who's the fairest of them all?

Hi again :)

I told you before that i found a pretty decent habitat for damsels and dragonflies not far from home, in my town, on the banks of the passing river.
Well, this was also taken there, on a very nice sunny morning. It was already very hot at 10 AM (about 27-28 centigrade) and all the damsels were very active.

By far, the bigest population there was the one of Calopteryx splendens - the Banded Demoiselle that you see here.
I saw plenty of males flying around, grabbing some breakfast and defending their territories.
The females were more preoccupied with laying eggs and occasionally having a snack in-between.

Please check the Workshop for a view over a small part of the population :)

Again i laid down on the ground to get this low POV and also reflection from the water. I know some of you are beginning to think i like this position, so please don't blame me, but the aim justifies the means ;)

Hope you'll like it :)

Hello Horia,
well seen and captured just from the right angle. It's the beautiful composition which makes up most of the attractivity of the picture. It's a pity that the plant in th foreground distracts the mirror image. But I think that there was no chance to avoid it. Nice colours and excat focus.
Best wishes, Peter

Hi Horia,
Once again the low POV worked out great in this splendid capture of the damselfly. Seems you hit the jackpot in the very populated habitat.

I got images of a rare and unique frog called a tailed frog(Ascaphus truei) this weekend while herping, I was very excited. It's not as pretty as the neotropical frogs but it is definitely a very unique frog that has a tail like apendage throughout its entire adult life(Really just an extention of it's cloaca). I'm almost afraid to post it as people may not like it.

I am more than convinced why you had to lie down flat to get this perspective, Horia.
The reflection of the damselfly on the surface of water is so well integrated into the actual image it does not look like a reflection at all!
What a superb feat of innovative photography, my friend!
The picture as a whole is a sheer joy to behold.
Thanks for sharing this great image.
Warm regards.

Hello Horia,
This mirror-effect is just great, creating a perfect symmetry. Interesting to see this eye-laying female and funny to imagine you on the ground to take the picture. I can assure you that you are not the only one in this position.
Super picture.
Best regards

Hi Horia,
Really good the reflection!
The reflected image has a low amount of light, even the tone of the body looks more green than yellow, as the original.
I like very much the folded wings, it creates a dense patron with its nerves and transparencies.
Magnificent the vertical composition made to fit into the original and their reflection.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,

Hi Horia,
it's fantastic, what a wonderful and impressive moment you have seen and captured.
The sharpness is so excellent and the motive beautiful with the mirror-effect.
I also went to a place I know that there are plenty of those damsels. But they all flew away when I wanted to come nearer than 5 meters. Than they were sitting high on a tree and I heard them laughing ;-) Haha!
Bye and greetings

Hello Horia,
Great capture of an ovipositing C. splendens taken just at the right time, with right POV, right lighting and composition and good sharpness.
A very fine image!
Well done and TFS!

Hermosos reflejos y encantadora imagen Horia.
Bellos colores y estupenda nota.
Ciao, JL.

Hi Horia,
You captured a wonderful and intimate moment. I knew how they were laying their eggs but never seen it, so this is very interesting to see. And, you made it an artistic photo as well with the wonderful reflection. Considering the harsh light and the reflection surface, you really did an outstanding you keeping the little lady in focus. The metalic green color of the little creature is beautiful.

impecabile detalii, contrast, focus, etc

imi place cum se vede acolo unde abdomenul intra in apa

Wow Horia,

The detail on this damselfly is fantastic. The light was harsh, but that was beyond your control. You handled it well. I like the reflection.

Well done.

Sal Horia,
Inca un macro de nota 10,imi place in mod deosebit reflexia si detaliile.
Felicitari !

este pur si simplu excelenta... eva ce cu un SLR aproape imposibil sa faci. BRAVO & a FAV

Hi Horia,
A fair image:-)
Wonderful reflection...
I've been wondering if these fellows often change their 'habitats'. One of my 'experiences' is that a few meters further away, there's nothing to detect any more.
I think this fellow want to be rich and is looking for oil:)

Hello Horia,
beautiful composition, I love the POV, lovely how the damselfly becomes one with the reflection.
Ecellent crisp colors and superp details.
DOF and sharpness are right on.
Checked your workshop, this place you found is full of those wonderful insects ;-)

Hello Horia,
Perfect timing and technique in taking this beautiful picture. Great to see this behavior in such great pov. Workshop is splendid with many damselflies. TFS,

Hi Horia, this is incredible. Not only did you get the Damselfly with excellent colour and detail, but you also captured the reflection in as good a state. To cap it off we can see down beneath the surface of the water. And for this you used a closeup filter? This is awesome!

Thanks, John

Hello Horia,
Great details in this intgriguing image!
Colours and details are simply great, and I notice the reflection is nothing back for the original, in fact colours tend to get richer in the reflected version...
Scenery is well framed!

Wow Horia,

That's a super shot you got of the damsel.
While the damselflies and dragon flies are known to have their existential origins from the watr, rarely does one find a shot of them in or near to water. Most of us have caught them in the foliage.
You not only managed an excellent shot of the damsel in water but also a fantastic posture with the refelction perfectly composed.

Great PoV and the frame is just prefect.
The WS photo is amazing.I wonder where do you find them like this.U 're really lucky to be living in those environments.

Hi Horia,
Beautiful!! A very well taken photo, technically correct, only disturb a bit the water plant? in front of insect reflection. Of course your POV and reflection makes the difference.

Hello Horia,

Great picture of this damselfly.
Great catch of this position.
Great color, DOF, sharpness and background.

Hallo Horia
I actually just want to tell you that this is a "dam" cute but also beautiful damselfly. Not only is the damselfly beautiful, the whole photo is beautiful. Not only is the whole photo beautiful, the reflection of the damselfly in the water is just stunning. I hope by now you realize that I really like this photo. In actual fact I must be frank and tell you that the mirror image in the water is more striking than the actual damselfly. But then on the other hand how would I be able to say who is the fairest of them all if I cannot see where the actual damselfly ends and where does the mirror image start? A very good presentation with wonderful colours and detail. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed looking at this one.
Kind regards
