This is "my tree" :)

This is part of the location i visited a lot these past two years, both for wildlife shots as well as for landscapes.
This shot was taken on the same day as my other two fall landscapes. Not only this time, but during my every visit, i try to photograph this tree in a way that would stand out better...but i just can't do it. There never seems to be enough distance between it at the trees behind him (in any direction). So here, i took advantage of the vivid colors and the setting sun (as you can see in the back) and tried to isolate it like that...it's probably my best result yet.

Unfortunately, pretty much all of my fall landscapes have suffered from loss of quality when trying to squeeze into the 200kB limit. So, sorry for the not great quality of this one as well.

Cool fact: believe it or not, my intro shot was taken ON this tree. Both my dog and I were up, on that horizontal side between the two main branches :)

Hope you'll like it :)
PS: it's Emma's oak shot that determined me to post it, so this is a small dedication for her, in hope that she will be all well very soon :)

I really like the way it stands out as the strong tree....and its own patterns are well grown... Even though there are trees in the background, this one stands right out. These fall background colours are a fine addition. Very moody image.

Hello Horia,
I do like your composition. Do I have to repeat that every time?
The colours and the 'special' light are not only an addition in my opinion, they are really key elements.; like those subtle differences in the green colours (trees, grasses,...)
Well done

Hello Horia,
This is a fine capture of what looks like an interesting habitat. I can imagine that this is a haven for dragonflies, butterflies and birds, not to mention the potential of the fine dead tree for beetles.
I have never used my Canon 400D for landscapes, but I can imagine the poor light has caused some quality restrictions here.
nevertheless it is an inspiring shot.
TFS and have a good weekend, both you and your dog!
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Horia

Hi Horia. You have done well to me. A nice compotion and use of the colours. It makes the tree stand out well. The dark of the bark against the grass. I have tried many times to take land and sea scapes and they never look any good . I shall have to get my fried PaulH from TN to show me how . but i think you can do it or not.I shall stick with my birds for now.
well done TFS.

Hi Horia,
A beautiful wide landscape!
Do you have the property papers to claim your ownership of the tree? :-)
It's so enjoyable the mix of greens at the back, and the presence of the yellow ones of the season.
I like very much this clean image and its presentation.
It's a very appropriate dedication to Emma.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,

Hi Horia.
What a cozy nook you have and you have pictured. It is really amazing in autumn. I like your POV and framing. The shot is looked very harmonious. May be shot is not extremely sharp and contrast. But these features are not needed always. The principal keyare that it is charming and reflects the nature mood perfectly. It has own soul. My compliments and kind regards.

Hello Horia,
what a splendid paint, great composition and wonderfull colors, excellent lighting and wonderfull point of view,
great shot

Hola Horia. Bella foto, colores y nitidez de alto nivel. Un bello lugar para meditar es este sin duda alguna. Saludos Luis52.

Hi Horia,
that's a wonderful place - so silent - nobody is there and I'm sure you can find special things there. Would be a perfect place for birds and deers, also for wild orchids perhaps.
Thanks and greetings

Hello Horia!
You've definately succeeded in making this tree stand out in your photograph!
I love your composition... it works really well.
Lovely vivid colours and nice lighting.
Well done mate.

Hello Horia
Excellent work here to isolate this wonderful old tree with the use of light behind it. The tree looks as though it has many stories to tell and its great that you have adopted him as your own...I dont know if it would be possible with location of the sun at dawn or dusk but this tree to me begs to be taken as a silhoutte..I really think this would highlight his wonderful features more.
A good rest of the weekend to you sir
All the Best

Hi Horia,
So now you have two trees. I still remember that you mentioned the very old tree in your yard.
Not only the tree is a beauty, the area is also very beautiful. How I whish to see this for real.
I do understand you trouble with getting enough space behind the tree for isolation. Recently I have been thinking about this issue as well and am still trying to find a workable sollution. The only thing that comes to mind it getting close and using a wide aperture. Ah well, its the difficulty of forest photography.

Desi nu ma prea pricep eu la fotografie, pot sa apreciez fotografia ta ca foarte reusita; mai ales compozitia care este extraordinara si culorice naturale, "de toamna".
Numai bine,

Hi Horia.
Using the autumn colours like this does help to single out the tree some from the background. Very nicely thought of and nicely put together using the lovely light.

Hi Horia, what a nice place to go! I think you sure captured very well the tree with all its surrounding. I like all the different tones in it mixed with the green of the grass and the emptiness of your tree. TFS!

hello horia,
emma would be pleased to see this shot, inspite of shrinking to 200kb this shot has enough quality to delight the viewers, the natural shades look great here , well composed shot, i liked the framing too,
well done,
tfs & regards

Hello Horia,
This is a tree with a personality!
A tree that has seen many things up through the years, from it's resting place by the stream...
A well balanced composition, attractive seasonal colours and a peaceful atmosphere!

Hello Horia
Excellent shot of your Tree :o)
I think they have spirit and feelings maybe.
Perfect composition,lighting and POV,

Hello Horia,
What a nice landscape shot with the good looking tree!
This is an another artistic photo from you and very well captured.
Beautiful autumn colours and excellent details here, also wonderful composition & POV.
Thanks for the sharing this lovely photo. :)
Best wishes,

hello horia
bravo pour cette jolie présentation, de bonne qualité, les couleurs sont jolies et nettes, bonne luminosité
bon dimanche

Hi Horia

What a wonderful oldie. It really seems to have had a hard life and stood the test of time.

I like the colours here and your attempts to get some space between it on the trees in the BG. The area looks like it should be a good area for wildlife in general becuase of the green grass and the water running through the area.

Hello Horia,
This is a beautiful scene with the crooked tree by the stream. I can imagine your frustration though, one would really like to see the silhouette sharply against a plain background but it's not always possible. I wonder if you tried to use the flash? I expect its a narrow valley that doesn't give you much room to experiment. Even so a nice
capture of the peaceful atmosphere.
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Horia,
Beautiful scene captured in this beautiful composition. What an interesting old tree you have choosen as yours. This composition aslo has an amazing palette of color, especially the greens and yellows. Thanks so much for sharing.

I would never have guessed that you and your labrador were in that tree for your intro photo. They are quite obliging dogs. Our wonderful yellow lab used to go sledding, backpacking, motorbike riding etc. She lived a full life for almost 16 years and 20 years later we still miss her!

I love the variety of soft fall hues in your image. Maybe you need to climb another tree so you can shoot this tree with the grass and pond behind it. It would have to be a pretty tall tree.. but anything for art.

I'm sure Emma appreciates the dedication. We all wish her the best.

Hi Horia,
I liked the composition, the place of the tree in the frame, the POV and the autumn colors in the background. TFS
Best wishes,

I think you achieved the best possible result for this scene Horia. I like the wide frame composition, as well as the late light in back from the setting sun..Interesting footnote about you and your dog also :)

Hi Horia, splendid autumnal composition with beautiful strange tree on the left, wonderful warm colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hello Horia, it's true that pictures with trees and leaves and lots of colors are 'heavy' and it's hard to have a very good quality at 200k. Anyway, the composition is very good and the atmosphere in it is soft and peaceful. Very well done !

Hi Horia,
apologies for not being around much these last few days my friend. A combination of poor weather and the demands of my young lady have kept me a bit busy!
Anyway, it's nice to see your Tree. The setting in which it sits is truly beautiful, and i can see why you have chosen this as your special place. Great composition, i like it alot. Have you tried maybe getting there at sunset/sunrise for more dynamic lighting? It might help you in your issue with making it stand out more against the BG. Anyway, very well done!

Hi Horia, lovely composition on this one with pleasent Autumn tones. Great work.

Hi Horia,
A beautiful landscape shot. Excellent DOF maintained with a very good composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Very beautiful and peaceful landscape. The colours and composition are perfect.

Hi Horia!

Don't we all have "our" tree, or rock, or river, or spot... Yours is a very nice one, and I like your picture very well although I can understand your difficulties. In fact, I believe that it will be difficult to get any better image because of the vivid background. Here, the upper branches of your tree are a bit lost in the leaves and branches of the background, but the lower part of the tree is well shaped. Maybe the solution could be to find a higher point of view or to wait for another lighting: sunrays on your tree, shadow on the rest!

Hmm, easy to say...

Kind regards

hello Horia,
I'm a little bit late, I know, but I like this picture a lot for its rich colour-palette and the many different green nuances. Your tree is great and to imagine you and your dog up there made me smile. Very attractive corner of earth.

Genial presentación y buenos detalles.
Hermosos colores bien contrastados.

Hello Horia,
this place near the little river of or pond looks wonderful. A naturalist's paradise for every season, thank you for showing it here!
With landscapes, keeping reasonable quality after downsize to 200K web presentation can be a very tricky job to do - one of the main reasons why I hardly ever show any landscapes here on TN. I admire all our friends who specialize on landscape for their very good results under such tightly set technical limitations. I think you also did it really well.
So your portrait with your dog was taken on top of that tree. Gee, that sounds acrobatic! And the photographer of that intro shot, was he or she balancing free handed on another branch?
There is a lot of depth and of hidden wonders contained in your work. And of fun, too. Thank you my friend.
With best regards,

Hi Horia

I like the composition and the colour palette very much. I think it works very well.

I have had real problems uploading shots to TN -quality/sharpness etc - what do you do to prepare your shots?
