Another [last one, I promiss ;-)] close-up of salt crystals from Slanic karst. This time well developed, very clear but also dark ones.

Next part of info about salt from Wikipedia:

Salts are usually solid crystals with a relatively high melting point. However, there exist salts that are liquid at room temperature, so-called ionic liquids. Inorganic salts usually have a low hardness and a low compressibility, similar to table salt.

Salts can be clear and transparent (sodium chloride), opaque (titanium dioxide), and even metallic and lustrous (iron disulfide).

Salts exist in all different colors, e.g. yellow (sodium chromate), orange (sodium dichromate), red (mercury sulfide), mauve (cobalt dichloride hexahydrate), blue (copper sulfate pentahydrate, ferric hexacyanoferrate), green (nickel oxide), colorless (magnesium sulfate), white (titanium dioxide), and black (manganese dioxide). Most minerals and inorganic pigments as well as many synthetic organic dyes are salts.

Different salts can elicit all five basic tastes, i.e. salty (sodium chloride), sweet (lead diacetate), sour (potassium bitartrate), bitter (magnesium sulfate), and umami or savory (monosodium glutamate).

Pure salts are odorless, while impure salts may smell after the acid (e.g. acetates like acetic acid (vinegar), cyanides like hydrogen cyanide (almonds)) or the base (e.g. ammonium salts like ammonia).

Wow Greg, this is another very interesting shot of your salty photos. I think it looks like marble. Excellent texture and patterns. Well done. And thank you too, I have learnt a lot from your photos.

Splendid composition, Greg! I like how light by transparency mixes with surface light. It's hard to locate it precisely, and that's what makes the attraction of this image. Long diagonal shapes create an attractive composition. Very interesting subject and note too. Well seen and realized!

Hi Greg, another good shot of the salt, I like it, your title remind me of the children movie called "Dark Crystal" it used to be my favorite movie.. I think they are after this kind of Crystal too. :) Good composition and it is very unique, I agree with Janice, it does look like marble indeed. Good stuff! TFS

Grzegorz, this doesn't have to be the last one. Keep them coming. To me, no problem.

I like the texture a lot. I'd say it's even an artistic shot. Great job.

Hello Greg, interesting shot here, it's hard to get a sense of scale. I can look at it and think it is a mountain face and then look again and think it is a macro. Nice detials and composition, good note. Well done.

I like very much this texture shots, they are OK, you can keep them coming, with the condition that the next are as good as this one. Great and interesting image, Greg.

Greg, My doctor says I should cut-back on my salt in-take! ;-)) Is this the last one? Promise? Great shot, well seen and captured..

Very beautiful crystals, they look almost like marble. Clear sharp photo, with great detail and information. Well done.
